@calum lol funny you say that when I turned the bike off I could hear the battery acid boiling, weird thing was the battery was cold to the touch all around,it's definitely something to watch out for no warning signs until it's too late luckily I had the multimeter hooked up the whole time so I knew it was over charging

@walney-reptiles The servo opens at 6k to 9k and should be fully open at 10k.

So just because the bike is running, doesn't mean it's actually operating.

Not sure if the neutral switch tells the CDI not to operate. In other words, it has to be in gear and past 6K to operate.

Could be goosed, but again, just staring at it isn't going to make it move.

Put the Yamaha part number into Google / Ebay and try looking at various different countries around Europe (do this in settings).

I bought one last year for my TDR project as it strangely didn't have one when I got it and from memory it was around £45 from ebay UK which I thought was reasonable

I don’t have a electric start. I have an 88 DTR125 Also my indicator relay is a 3 pin one behind the headlight. These 2 are 4pin. They control the sidestand kill switch, which the previous owner removed from my bike 🙄

PS modern bikes are a bit more solid state,...

I know it doesn’t sound right, and might not be as I stated it. I am sure that it is to stop you pulling away with the side stand down. 1 neutral switch, 1 relay. 1 sidestand switch 1 relay. It’s how old computers worked before solid state. On a newer bike the ecu would probably do the job...

@spookdog Hi mate, the wiring is currently stripped right back on the replacement unit. I think I may have it sorta resolved now, gonna fit it tomorrow and see if it runs!

@nenormaliuda Hello, welcome to the forum

Normally it's customary (polite) to introduce yourself before firing away questions. We're not your personal free mechanic.

The fact that you have multiple problems suggests something in the power supply chain.

Start simple, fuse, bad earth, ignition barrel faulty.

@atraiss Yeah, a dodgey connection though? When you're going over bumps and stuff. Doesn't sound ideal.

@spookdog I don't know what those are for, but there is one on the DTRE that I don't know what they are.

I think there was an OEM alarm system that plugs into it though.

I have an early 1988 type loom, the only lights that run off the battery are brake and indicators...

Anyone had any problems with using halogen bulbs? As opposed to the big round old fashioned bulb? (which the early Dtr uses) I just wondered if they can cause heat damage at all?...

Yes tried a different plug with same problem. I have change all components that are needed, it is off road so no ignition, lights, etc. I think I may investigate the neutral light switch and see what happens😉 it can,t be the side stand switch because it sparks intermittently.
Changed stator plate and pick up, fly wheel, cdi unit, coil, battery, regulator.
It did run a while ago and I thought I’d cured it, once I made the wiring more secure and ready to test ride, it wouldn’t start. I thought it could of been a fault in the harness and had a friend of mine sort it out and get rid of the unessecary wires. Still no joy🤬. The only thing untouched is the neutral light switch🤔

    @markus-w

Yes I will do! I’ve got two stators now, I’m almost certain the original unit is definitely past it’s best so I will look to get it repaired and keep as a good spare for me!

I will keep the thread up to date with progress as it’s still not resolved yet, fingers crossed the new unit might resolve my issue!! 😎
