Problem solved. It was the cdi unit. Changed that and it runs like a dream. Thought I'd let everyone know as sometimes people get it fixed and you never hear the outcome

Power valve issue -
2003 DTR Powervalve issuesMy powervalve would go through the cleaning process but not move once the bike was started. Got another cdi unit and it then worked great so I would go for a cdi unit. When I started mine it went to the close position and stayed there no matter how much I revved it.
