Help with starter motor wiring

Hello i have a yamaha dt125x 2006 and i recently repaired the starter motor for it. i have no idea where to connect the only wire that comes from the motor. it has a circular connectrol in the end and to me it looks like the kind you hook into a battery. Can i put the wire straight into the battery and make a switch in there to controll it? If it helps I think The old owner has removed a small part of the wiring harness but not sure what they were. Any help is much appreciated, thank you in advance.
