    • RE: Dt 125r dyno

      @jonne123

      No disrespect meant from the start! But I’m guessing that you’re about 17 and haven’t ridden a great deal of bikes?
      Every 125 Has been restricted to about 12bhp since the late 80’s AFAIK. Any bike that is significantly above that has been de-restricted and/or tuned.
      You can unrestricted early dtr’s by ‘pinning’ the power valve open. This will give you higher bhp but will basically make the throttle an on/off button with terrible response.
      Later bikes I don’t know as much. You can unrestrict them and the variable power valve will still give you better low rev torque/response (I’m guessing that is what you mean by throttle response?)

      Do some reading up on deristricting your year model bike, then do some riding. Stop worrying about numbers bud, enjoy a wicked little bike for what it is, before yearning for more...

      @Stevie-Wonder

      I just put the brake pedal on the left hand side with a cable to operate. The gear change was operated by a 2 foot long stainless rod 😎 I welded up the left hand gear change on the headset and off I went. Ass about a foot off the ground and a 30mill delortto (with bellmouth) sticking out behind your ass!
      I wish I had pics 😐

      Those are some good memories and a sweet gs

      @Stevie-Wonder

      I learned to change gear on a dt50mx, 14 years old on the local rugby field. 2 nights later I was riding it round the town 😇 pitch black in the middle of winter. I ended up falling in love with 2/‘S, has more Vespas and lambrettas than I can remember. Margate is one of the places I’ve actually ridden to, never had any problems cause nearly all my scooters were chopped ☠️

      I met an old boy with one leg through buying DTR bits on fleabay, he used to race 2/‘S he’s got a Dt LC with an rd200 twin engine in it! Also a beautiful unmolested kh350 (iirc) I’ve never seen one of before. As well as a mystery covered bike I haven’t asked about yet. He only lives a few miles away from me. There are definitely some really interesting old souls out there!...

      I only got this in May, but it’s MoT time tomorrow!

      Eye exam in the afternoon so I can read a number plate @21 metres. CBT in a week with luck...

      Am insured, so only tax needed as well...

      It’s been 25 years since I was last legal on a bike, so I’m pretty excited...

      I didn’t think mounting the clocks was a problem, I thought it was the drive gear wheel/spacer that meshes to the Yz wheel?...

      @chris
      Think of tri-age, like war medics do. Does it really need the amount of attention, that could be better used on something else?...
      I’d just wire brush it down, then satin black it. Job done. I’m just as guilty of over thinking things sometimes 🤪 check out Sound Blaster horns ...

      The screw/nut adjusts the sound/pitch, like said...

      Please turn it anti-clockwise till you can see the most of the piston without it being occluded by the power valve. I don’t know how else to say it...

      Dude! Somewhere dry and warm to tinker around truly is a blessing 👍
      Winter sucks dry shit through a tight straw ( it sucks hard!)
      If you can avoid stripped nuts and skinned knuckles, it’s all good! 😇

      @dtr-nsr
      I don’t know, I’m not an expert. But it looks like an ‘aggressive’ heat seizure, whether mixture or lube, to me...
      Then again I’ve only ever seen other people’s work. I had a near seizure once but caught it in time when the engine ‘note’ changed. So it never smeared the piston.

      My guess would be doing a tad under 100mph on a new rebuild that has only just had the jetting altered 😜

    • Spare block connectors?...

      On my early (1988) Dtr there are two ‘spare’ block connectors behind the headlight. One is Green bodied with 2 wires, 1 Blue & 1 Yellow/Black stripe.
      The other is Red bodied , with 3 wires, 1 White/Blue stripe, 1 Red/White stripe, 1 Black.

      Can anyone please tell me what these are for? They are obviously factory fitted. So I’m wondering why?!...

      @dan28
      I have an early 1988 type loom, the only lights that run off the battery are brake and indicators...

      Anyone had any problems with using halogen bulbs? As opposed to the big round old fashioned bulb? (which the early Dtr uses) I just wondered if they can cause heat damage at all?...

      The most I ever had was a pre fab council garage that had no electric or light. I used to use old Fray Bentos pie tins with old engine oil and makeshift wicks as lamps! Caveman stuff...
      Some of the best stuff is made this way, needs force musts when you’re baked and cold 🙃...

      @dan28
      I didn’t know that there was a plastic side case, but if it has the same pumps it should be ok. I’d keep my original oil pump if it’s good. Just cause it’s calibrated right.

    • RE: Yz 85 cylinder material

      If the bore is OK leave it alone you just need to find the right piston. Go through an authentic dealer, also get the bore measured by an engineer so you know exactly what size you’re looking for...

    • RE: Intermittent spark

      @calum
      Ditto, if the bike doesn’t know it’s in neutral it will assume it’s in gear and kill the ignition if the stand is down.
      On my bike (1988) the red oil light comes on when you first start the engine, then goes off when you put it into a gear. I also have 2 solenoids that are connected to the ignition circuit via the sidestand switch, ect. It’s different on the 1997 on bikes, and then again on the RE bikes.

      PS, have you tried a different spark plug? 😎
