Rear shock alternatives?
-
Anyone know if any other mono shocks fit the dtr 93 mines perished the little stop out rubber thing and prices online are a bit hefty just wondered if anyone knows of a direct replacement even something a lil shorter so i can finally get the mrs have a razz on the old girl haha
Did read think it was on here that an old model yz one fitted but cannot find the post or yz model anywhere so thought ide ask you legends
Also is it a mot failure for tht stopout rubber ?
-
YSS do replacement shocks and they make good quality stuff.
-
Cheers buddy appreciate that still rather pricey but does look like itl hold up for a few good years do you know if the stopout rubber is an mot failure or just if the tester notices it ?
-
Yes the YSS is pricey, but looking online isn't great either.
You have used/abused stock R/RE/X shocks on eBay for £70 with no guarantees. You could try and fit a DT200R or DT 230 Lanza as I believe they'll be a close match. But again we're talking about bikes that have been out of production for nearly 25ish years.
For what it's worth the YSS stuff is nice, I run one on my RS.

Cool will probly end up getting tht one once I got some funds as a new stock one was around 300 last time I looked its a shame and reason I asked is cause you can get a pair of rd250 shocks that look similar for 60 bux https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204948462536 and seen alot of other stuff that may fit but without having it in hand its a gamble plus ive not took the old one out yet waiting on some tyres and hoping it will go through an mot just thought ide ask incase I could pick up something for around 50 that I could bolt in before the mot.
Just checked the archives for ideas looks like most were swing arm conversions an hacking away the batt box to fit so il give that a miss for now as its a bit to much for this old git to do right now lol once the mots sorted then im not to fussed about stripping her down just got so many projects and not enough time or cash would be nice to find an apprentice to help round my end haha
-
I mean it's not like you can't get used DTR shocks.
£55 which is reasonable and probably what I'd do and refurbish it. I was just saying that the YSS stuff is pretty good from experience. But I'm not sure I'd spend the money in a hurry...

Yeh seen a few and had the kids looking for me was in two minds to go second hand ive not bothered taking any of the old bits off the DT worried about splitting old bushes n stuff n not had much funds to replace was supposed to get them dog bones a while back to test lowering it for her and jacking it for me im just old n lazy init thanks for looking for us and the advice i'm still not sure if I can just rebuild the one on there looks like skateboard truck kinda rubber is all I need to replace but also looks like a fixed unit which I thought was strange.
I'll get at it this week anyway got 2 tyres in the mail so gota dig out the stand to sort them so will have a propa go at tht shox while im at it.
Will keep you updated.

@yeolderaver You reckon you could just 3D print one? You said you had a printer....
-
You know thats not a bad idea i made up some gaskets that held and some stuff for a workbench and some pc feet that still hold up cant remember the name of tht printing material but had a nice spongy bounce wonder how well it would take up with the seasons though outside. What came to mind was one of them old girvin flex stem elastimers we used to have in the 90s on our mtbs but bet you cant source them either nowadays just hoping I dont ruin the bushes n stuff when I remove it still in two minds to do the front tyre and get tht mot n prey he dont notice it not as if im going to be doing jumps off road on it now theres nowhere left to ride round here. You got me thinking now though if I can stretch the spring enough and tht printing stuff holds enough for me to slip a rubber printed collar around the shaft happy days.
Your more than welcome to come and help me though bro just been reading them blog posts about couple of them builds tht RS n Yamito you got some mad skills n patience would love to restore one of mine and rebuild the engines properly i'm to impatient to rebuild the cvt on her moped lol
