    My cutting out symptoms seem to match a blocked tank breather for cause. Is the tank vent built into the insides of the lockable fuel cap somehow, ir is it elsewhere on the tank?

      @FloWolF It does breathe through the filler cap yes. The Yambits pattern one is completely identical to OEM and costs less than £30 IIRC.

        What’s your thinking? That it’s stopping petrol from getting to the carb? Highly unlikely. It’s just as likely to overpressurise the tank and force fuel through the carbs overflow 🙂 . Just remove the rubber seal ring from the cap and put it back on, take it for a ride without it. Knock it off the list…

        Chances are you’ve got shit in the carb…

          I've had blocked tank breathers before, and seen plenty correctly diagnosed by others and the vacuum stopping the fuel delivery symptom is plenty real.

          I've had the cap off and in bits now so I know there's nothing wrong with that, just wanted to check I hadn't missed something like a seperate breather pipe elsewhere.

          Next job I'll drain the tank and check the tank filter, then work naturally onwards from there, then.

            @FloWolF Forgot to mention there's also (or should be) a small gauze filter which pushes into the carb fuel inlet that sometimes gets blocked, it's a bit fiddly but you can pull it out and clean it. They're still available from Fowlers but I've cleaned them by spraying brake cleaner on the float bowl side before, it's OK as long as you don't push the nozzle completely down and give it the full fire hose treatment.

              I have heard anecdotes where a faulty boat or moped engines were cured by drilling a hole in the fuel cap.

                  The tank isn't vacuum locking, tank filters aren't blocked I've checked them now. I'll be pulling the tank etc. tomorrow or day after and taking the carb off completely - I'll not be happy until I know it's clean inside. Cheers!

                    Once you start getting crap in the carb, it can only come through the tank. I can’t run my bike for any length of time without an inline filter. Getting a decent quality small one is the problem…
