2006/7 DTRE/DTR170cc
-
Hello,
So I thought I would start a build thread on my 06/07 DTRE/DTR. I say DTRE/DTR because the frame, plastics, tank and electrics are RE, but the engine and the 170cc kit are from a DTR. So no electric start, kick start only! (I prefer it).
So the background for this bike. I swapped it for a 2011 YZFR125 with 11k miles on the clock that I got from my girlfriends cousin. He had crashed it a few times so was looking worse for wear. I took it for a ride and hated every second of it so got home and looked for someone to swap with.
Cue this guy commenting telling me that he had a DTRE125 he wanted rid of, I couldn't contain my excitement after reminiscing about my old DTR125 SUMO.

Was a piece of shit and my favourite thing in the world all rolled into one. Blew it up countless times over the 2 years of owning it. Paid 1200 for it in enduro trim and spent another 400 or so on YZ forks and SUMO wheels.
This is the DTR/RE I have now. Some pics are from the old owner so I apologise for their shit quality.

I've changed the plug, cleaned the carb, checked all earths and switches. My problem is this, the bike will spark whether the ignition is on or off and whether or not the kill switch is on or off. I know bikes well enough to know it shouldn't be doing that. So I have a weak yellow spark and the bike will not fire for love nor money. Plus is wet with fuel and I even changed to a fresh plug.
It's not an issue i've come across before so I have no idea how to overcome it.

@Carlosrexx Just an idea I know the electrics definitely aren't right from what your describing and the spark is weak to which is the most likely culprit but I'm just wondering if it's the head gasket that's gone since it was running fine until you put it away and came back to it! Worth checking to see if it's low on coolant could potentially be leaking into the cylinder? Really hope you get it sorted it's a lovely bike
-
All sorted now mate. Turns out the bottom end was flooded due to poo spark and the spark was the issue due to a fault in the kill switch. I've since done away with the kill switch and she's back to life! Gutted that it took so long cos the weekend was lovely and could have taken her out. Ah well, it's all working again so I can go ahead with replacing parts that I hate and modifying to suit me

Been toying with the idea of Hpires rear fender, or some YZ plastics ;D

So this is as it stands now. This is how it came from the previous owner after someone smashed it up for displaying EDL in the reg. EDL for those who don't know stands for English Defence League. So people don't take kindly to it being displayed.

http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee433/RV02-Sachs/IMG_5469.jpgHand operated rear brake for sik wheelies m9. Fucking tool.
http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee433/RV02-Sachs/IMG_5470.jpgSo that's how it stands as of today. I have a WR swingarm and WR shock coming which should beef up the look of the rear a little bit, then it's onto YZ forks, Supermoto wheels and tidying up some wiring, new headlight, new fatbars and grips, some decent levers and perches and mounting the KOSO dash that was installed when I got the bike

My brother had a similar problem way back when. Turned out the be a faulty stand switch so he bypassed it all. Ended up being able to start it with or without the key. Ah well was never a bike he left anywhere and has a sm yz now so it's the same thing.
But when he sold it this chap took it on as a project. Redid all the wiring loom. Guy was a lifetime mechanic. Or rather owned a garage for the most part of his life. Absolutely loaded. But not knowing what the problem was he couldn't fix it. So he called my brother up to ask for a hand. My bro went round and just as he went to fix the problem he said. Don't chop the loom! Well that was it then my bro said. Can't fix it.
He later sold it to a mate of mine and my bro went straight round there day one and fixed it. My mate ended up with a bargain non runner that was fixed day one lol.
The point being is I know your pain.
That pipe was lovely. ELD is a bit extreme and probably says more about them for getting offended.
Hopefully you can put some life back into it.

@Carlosrexx It'll look totally stunning and really stand out with a WR swing arm! I've got a WR 200 swing arm and rear brake set up that I'm planning to fit on my bike in the next few weeks to. Definitely looking forward to seeing this bike progress

That's what I'm aiming for, shedding some pounds! The YZ forks will be a little lighter too!
