Registering a European Motorcycle UK

Since the bike is imported and you've done the tax work already then that's step 1 done, they should not ask you for any more. Now you will need the german equivalent of the V5 and you'll need to apply for nova registration next, you will need to send them the german V5. Once that is done you need to contact the DVLA and send them your NOVA papers, you should not need to send them the german V5. Once you get your UK V5 back, it's mot and insurance and you're on the road. They might ask for your bike to be inspected but since it came from germany, i.e the EU, it should be fine. I don't want to discourage you since you obviously want to ride your bike for summer, but my experience with this process is it takes several months. The HRMC Nova will be done relatively easily, but the DVLA like to take their time. Best of luck.

DVLA V55/5 form
You have to send the german v5 to the dvla with your V55/5 form, you do not get the german document back. They shouldn't need to inspect the bike, @Calum if you want i can send you the V55/5 form as have some and will send full explanation on how to go through the registration process quickly and easily.

@2stroketerry I will have a look at the documents this weekend if I have any issues I will give you a buzz definitely.

You dont need to send your German V5 to HMRC for nova you dont even need to send an invoice copy, they dont class eu imported bikes as imports as no duty is payable on eu bikes. But the nova application form will ask for German reg number and date of first registration . If you have German V5 when you apply for nova dont put down that its been in uk for longer than a month or you could be fined. You dont even need to send the nova confirmation form to dvla once you get it they have access to the HMRC details through the vin number. If you dont have a German V5 you can use a dating certificate for dvla an indipendant one will be cheaper than aprillia uk. From posting applications to dvla i normally get logbooks back in 10 to 14 days. Can take a monthish if they want an inspection. If they do you have to book it yourself as its not dvla who do the inspection these days its a private firm. Registration is easy.
You need after nova registration is done
Completed V55/5
Mot
Proof of id
Foreign logbook or dating certificate
Cheque or postal order for 74 quidThats it simple as. I do around 20 of these a year.

@scrimsmustang Cool. So with a bit of luck I should be MOT'ing it July/August (ordered everything I think I needed yesterday morning) only the powervalve housing is out of stock at the moment. Probably have a spare lying aorund.
So I've requested the V55/5 form, logged into my government gateway account to check the NOVA so I'm happy that's been done.
Cheers lads.

@calum Good to go then Cal, its nothing to worry about. I have just got 2 logbooks today K reg White/Pink DTR and Red/White 03 reg CRM that were both sent off on the 18th of this month so 12 days turn around. They are both going straight back to dvla in the new owners names. CRM done 20hp at wheel on Mick Abbey dyno jet run nothing more than derestricted and arrow pipe. Easy for us live 20 mins from his shop.

are you applying for NOVA as VAT registered?
Private applications are sometimes asked for EU receipts and proof of age via email. So it's wise for privates to get a dating cert done first and have the receipt ready.
-
No not applied as vat registered, hmrc dont even class eu bikes as imports as no duty is payable on them and not once have they asked for a foreign logbook copy or receipt for any eu bike I have registered . None eu bikes hmrc do want a copy of the foreign logbook and purchase receipt so they can calculate the duty, every none eu bike they have asked for them.
