rear brake light dimly flashing when indicating.

so just got the bike running again and i was pulled over by the local constabulary because when i was breaking (they were behind me) and indicating the brake light was trying to flash as well.i thanked them very much and rode home.dident really believe them i thought they were just trying to be funny but its true i tried it once i got home.any clues/pointers as to why.
