Hi Calum, the OEM coil I ordered has arrived from Fowlers but the clear autolube pipe I ordered from e bay has not arrived. It is showing as running late when I check the tracking. I do not want to start the bike until the clear oil tube is fitted and bled so I am at the mercy of Royal Mail. Assuming the bike will run the only thing left to do is a couple of bulbs and then it should be ready for its MOT. I will fit a new plug cap similar to the one you show.

Hi Calum that is the one I saw but I decided to play safe and get the OEM one from Fowlers. It would be interesting to see if anyone has tried one of these and if it worked ok or not. I also looked at buying a new plug cap from Fowlers but they do not stock them any more but at 32 quid I would not have bought one anyway.

HI HOTSHOT III, I probably will go the OEM route, I just want to explore all the options. I was wondering if there is a test for the input voltage to the coil. I haven't seen anything.

Hi all, i have been using the Yamaha DT125RE_125X 2005 Service Manual.pdf for reference. Page 268 shows the test procedure for the source coil resistance. The drawing shows the positive multimeter probe connected to Black/Red and the negative probe to Green/White but the text instructions have them the other way round. Can someone please check If I am right and advise on the correct procedure. Thanks

  • Hello everybody
    J JOHNES

Hi, i am john from the UK and I am the owner of a 2004/05 Yamaha DT 125 RE. The bike is low mileage at 11,300 miles but unfortunately after being stored for a long time it is now a non runner. With the help from the forum members I hope to get it running again. Wish me luck. Thanks to Calum and HOTSHOT III for their help so far.

    Welcome New Owners!

Hi Calum, it is a good job I did bleed it because after being stood for years the oil had started to clot in the pipe. The oil in the tank looked ok but I bled it until the new oil came through. I am going run clear oil lines as well. I still need to bleed from the pump to the reed valve housing. Hopefully I can get the pipe off and get that done thanks to the help from HOTSHOT III

Hi Calum, have you seen the Japanese made Mitsubishi coil for sale on yambits. Would you consider this aftermarket crap or OEM equivalent?

Thanks HOTSHOT III I will fit the clear tube kit as you suggested. When I looked on yambits for the pipe kit I looked to see if they had coils as well and they had two. One was £18.00 and the other was a Japanese one made by Mitsubishi for £40. Do you know if the Mitsubishi one is as good as the OEM one from Fowlers.

  • 2004 DT RE COIL QUESTION
    J JOHNES

Thanks Calum I have just had confirmation from Fowlers agreeing with what you posted. I have another question if anyone can help regarding the 2t feed from the pump. I have bled the pump but I can't get the pipe off the reed valve housing to bleed it. I have a spare reed valve housing and on that one the pipe just pushes on to the fitting but on my bike the pipe appears to fit inside the fitting. The bike is a 2004/05 dt 125 re. I have tried pulling it but it won't budge.

  • 2004 DT RE COIL QUESTION
    J JOHNES

Following advice from HOTSHOT III I have decided not to purchase a cheap aftermarket coil for my non runner and get a genuine Yamaha one. I have looked on Fowlers but the part numbers do not match with mine. The part number of mine which I know to be the original coil is 3RW-10 43D but the one from Fowlers is 3RW-H2310=00 and they are out of stock. I am waiting for a reply from Fowlers about compatibility and delivery time. Has anyone else had this issue? I may be interested in a good used coil if anyone has one for sale.

HOTSHOT III thanks for the reply. I am pretty sure the coil is knackered. I tested it with the multimeter and got a reading of .0005 ohm on the primary and nothing at all on the secondary so I think the coil and the plug lead/cap are both knackered. There are a few little jobs that need doing but I do not want to spend money on them until I get it running. I am going to price one up at Fowlers as you suggested. The last time I started the bike it ran for about 20 minutes and was idling nicely as it always did then it cut out and would not start. I still had spark then. I took the carb off and cleaned it but did not find anything wrong and then the battery died and it has not been started since so I need a spark to see if the carb is ok. The bike has only done 11,300 miles and is in generally good order so I hope I can get it running again. I was planning to MOT the bike then sell it but I might change my mind and keep it. Just checked Fowlers but they are out of stock.

I all, I am a new member and i have a 2004/05 DT re which has been stored for a few years and is now a non runner due to no spark. I have tested the coil and it is goosed. Are the cheap coils on E bay any good and are the so called racing coils which are supposed to provide a stronger spark worth the extra money.
