Sorry if this is in the wrong section but I’ve been trying to find an answer to this question and I can’t find a clean cut answer.
I’ve got a 99’ Dtr (my first proper bike) and run the oil injection as well as a cap on oil in the tank. Will me engine braking damage the engine ?

I was just looking at my Engine as I have a coolent problem when I found this hole on the bottom of the engine but it looks to uniform to be damage but still looks wrong

There’s a picture of it, it is directly under the top end

Yes it’s loosing cooling from the radiator quite a bit

@SpookDog would this not contaminate the coolant as I have never seen anything in the coolant and always drains perfectly clear

Been working on it all day and we have since found it wasn’t the water pump still trying to figure it out haha

Update.

so i have a reason to believe that its my water pump that has failed, does anyone know how to test the water pump before removing it ?

Hi again, so after trying a new cap it hasn’t seamed to fix it but I am 95% sure I found the source of the leak (see image ) is this hole ment to be used as an overflow and does anyone have a full Coolant system diagram

I’ve tried another cap ( an old one that came with the bike as the bike came with 2 boxes of parts) and it seams to be worse so I think that shows both caps are bad and the og one wasn’t as bad

Thank you very much, that’s me swapped over the cap for a spare one I had and I’ll get back to you after my ride today

P.S. the head gasket is all on the right way as I could just see the “up”

I will check over flow but I got an Athena head gasket for the bike and had the head skimmed too

And what do you mean right way round for the head gasket is there a top and bottom? We got it facing the right direction but if there’s a top and bottom I’m not sure

P.s. the coolant doesn’t look contaminated at all

Hi all, I recently rebuilt my top end so had to replace coolant

After doing so it seams to me that the bike will leak coolant from the kickstand when I park it up and will begin to over heat when riding it afterwards.

Sorry if this is a dumb mistake but I can’t seem to pin point it thanks all

I was stripping down the top end when I found a gold coating on the inside definitely interesting

Does anyone have any ideas ( the bike ran fine until the top end went )

As I said earlier I cannot check my compression at the moment but it does feel like I have some

When I checked my radiator I found my finger was dirty and the cap had a milky residue

I've heard before the milky residue could be a sign of a head gasket failure

To be honest I have no clue about the age of the Engine as I bought it last August and it came with like 3 top ends and a bottom

I'm getting a compression tester from a friend sometime this week.

What kind of residue would I find in the cap ?

Hi all, I have a 99'DTR and after leaving a bike meet the bike felt slightly sluggish, this got worse as the trip went on and when I pulled over to check it cut out when I pulled in the clutch. The bike no longer starts and I have no clue what it is I have cleaned the carb (not incredibly thoroughly and have cleaned and have spark. (Yes I do have fresh fuel)

Sometimes when I try to bump it will bang if that helps at all

Hi, all I was just wondering if this seams off ?
I'm reinstalling my exhaust as I had a leak from my exhaust gasket and I cannot seam to get the exhaust to go on in another way apart from this and I think its too close to the frame

@Calum i have no clue haha the last owner didn't have much of a clue so i doubt that helps, but thanks for the help !

@Calum I would rebuild it, In fact that's what I tried to do at the start but it didn't work and turns out that my caliper was corroded and beyond repair
