Just push the piston back into the caliper. Make sure you undo the reservoir first however.
I don't think there is anything special about the way the front brake pads go in though. It's been 10+ years since I've remotely looked at a DTR caliper but most calipers are fairly self explanatory.
Nice one for that mate thanks for all the info I'll take the break completely off and try see where the leak is actually coming from but I suspect it is the seals will order some genuine ones tonight thank you pal for the tips
@Koltin As far as I know all pre-DTRE master cylinders are the same from 1988 until around 2004 so I'd start by comparing part numbers on Fowlers website, look up the part for say an '88, a '96 and your own bike:

@SpookDog On reflection maybe my "dead money" comment earlier was a bit dismissive; I was a bit pissed when I wrote it as I'd had a MTB problem in the rain the previous evening and was looking at the wrong end of spending the day fixing it. So apologies if I've annoyed/upset anyone.
Well I run RS 125 rear calipers on my stock DTRE master cylinder and the brakes are ace.
On the front I swapped out the mastercylinder with something more appropriate, for said reasons....
@89dt125nick
Buy a cable you cheap git! Like indicators you don’t need them by law, but if they’re fitted need to work. I’m guessing speedos the same?…
Got the new 14mm rear master. It’s amazing how good the build quality is!...
Don’t know when I’ll refit the 35mm front on the rear with the new master. Will let peeps know if there are any real benefits...
@SpookDog
Yeah mix matched DT125RE but I’ve bought loads of different stuff for it over the time lol. That’s the problem of buying spares and using them over the years and forgetting what model/age they come from, when you come to do l maintenance can be a ball ache
I reckon this calliper is from a DT125X/RE…When searching in the old forum someone else with an X had troubles with there nissin calliper…maybe some of the newer ones used nissin callipers maybe?
Ok cheers, I’ll try that but yeah if no luck we’re get them out and just go down toolstation or something to see if we can some similar… I reckon it’s both bolts that you can see.
Cheers
