Hi all I've been having trouble with my bike recently and turns out I need a new front caliper. After ordering one off eBay it turns out the seller sent a back caliper. I would appreciate any help I could get as I desperately want the bike ready for the road by the 18th as it's my 17th and I will be all ready to go

What's the matter with the one that's on there? Can't you just rebuild it?

I certainly wouldn't be paying the prices they're asking for on Fleabay.

Yamaha don't make calipers, Nissin are usually their preferred supplier. So I'd be looking at other Yamaha's of a similar era that used the same brake setup and grabbing a caliper off of one of those.

Possibly a YBR or something. Check the part numbers for compatibility:

        Yamaha, DT50R (3MN1, 1989) 999 A, 1989, DT50R (3MN1, 1989) 999 A, Europe, Yamaha black FRONT BRAKE
        Yamaha, DT50R (3MN1, 1989) 999 B, 1989, DT50R (3MN1, 1989) 999 B, Europe, White FRONT BRAKE
        Yamaha, DT50R (3MN1, 1989) 999 C, 1989, DT50R (3MN1, 1989) 999 C, Europe, Solid endurance blue FRONT BRAKE
        Yamaha, DT50R (3MN2, 1991) 999 A, 1991, DT50R (3MN2, 1991) 999 A, Europe, Yamaha black FRONT BRAKE
        Yamaha, DT50R (3MN2, 1991) 999 B, 1991, DT50R (3MN2, 1991) 999 B, Europe, Deep violet FRONT BRAKE
        Yamaha, DT50R (3MN2, 1991) 999 C, 1991, DT50R (3MN2, 1991) 999 C, Europe, Deep violet solid 1 FRONT BRAKE
        Yamaha, DT50R (3MN2, 1991) 999 D, 1991, DT50R (3MN2, 1991) 999 D, Europe, Purplish white solid 1 FRONT BRAKE
        Yamaha, DT50R (3MN2, 1991) 999 E, 1991, DT50R (3MN2, 1991) 999 E, Europe, Spanish white 2 FRONT BRAKE
        Yamaha, DT50R (3MN3, 1995) 999 A, 1995, DT50R (3MN3, 1995) 999 A, Europe, Yamaha black FRONT BRAKE
        Yamaha, DT50R (3MN3, 1995) 999 B, 1995, DT50R (3MN3, 1995) 999 B, Europe, Purplish white solid 1 FRONT BRAKE

A quick look on Fowlers suggest the DT50R ran the same brake.

But I'd probably just rebuild the one you have, looks like lots of listings on eBay for rebuild kits available.

@Calum I would rebuild it, In fact that's what I tried to do at the start but it didn't work and turns out that my caliper was corroded and beyond repair

Wow really? That's savage. It's aluminium, how corroded could it be!

Well I wouldn't be paying £200 for what is effectively a shit caliper.

I'd be finding something similar or off another bike.

Well are you sure it's beyond repair? I mean it has to be pretty bad for that to be the case?
