1/4 Action Throttles / Quick Action Throttle for DT125R

When I bought my ‘98 YZ 250 nobody told me that throttle cables have an assortment of different fitments... me knowing none the wiser proceeded to hammer, cut and file near enough the entire outer plastic sheath to make it fit.
Whoops.
Now I’m creating a thread so you don’t do the same hahahaHere are some options for you from what I’ve found

Yamaha YZ (80, 125, 250, 490) 1982-1995 throttle (I haven’t tried this yet but throttle cables are near identical to a DT’s)

The old ‘88 KX80 (outer sheaf needs slight modification. No hammers involved.) as used by darty.
It’s worth noting that if you’re not using the stock carb/running oil pump then finding a nice 1/4 action throttle is much much easier.
To find all you have to do is find a bike with the same carb as you and cross reference.
The other thing to do is there’s a lot of places that will make throttles and cables specific to the series of carb you have I.e Mikuni’s “VM/TM” series.Your other option if you plan on keeping the oil pump etc then what you can do is cut away that plastic sheaf like I did. Do away with it all together.
(Pre-warning though doing this without a hacksaw and damaging the cable is tricky, but if you have a small fine hacksaw and some patience it can be done)
Getting rid of this will give you the ability to add different sized Ferrurles (the nipple that finishes your cable) so you can then fit one that’d suit/fit better.
Once you’ve done that all you need is a barrel and grub screw to suit your throttle body. -
Custom Option
So I got talking with a guy who builds 183 runners and the likes.
He tells me what you can do is just build your own cable, simple enough.The majority of scooters modded and otherwise also run oil pumps, get where I’m going with this?
Build your own cable to your specifications so that regardless of size, fitments, oil pump or no oil pump you have something that’ll work for you

But on the DTR the throttle cable doesn't run to the carburettor.
It runs to a junction box. So forget the carburettor. All you need a is a small piece from the throttle tube to the junction box. The junction box then splits off to the oil pump and carburettor.
I run a quick throttle kit on my RS. All that was needed was the throttle tube and the cable to the junction box.

I never actually knew that junction box was a separate thing. I had always been under the impression that junction box was a integrated Y split that was just all as one cableHow accessible is it to change and easy is it to locate a new cable?
