It's not blown the crankshaft seal has it? And started sucking in gearbox oil? Similarly with the head gasket, if that's gone it'll burn coolant (which should be white in colour).

Hmmm really hope not I never got round to looking at the engine just fixed the starter gubbings and slapped it in was more concerned about is the whole bike here form the box of parts also was told its a nickle piston or something so didnt want to strip it down with no funds for a decent rebuild. Ive not even taken the power valve out to check for carbon build up.

Really hope its carb or air related or im going to have to strip her down and rebuild hope ya wrong bud thanks for the insight I'll go see if I can get the vids n host them somewhere as i'm trying to get away from google n the likes

Throw a compression check on it, would be my first point of call. If the head gasket is gone then it'll be down on compression. Stick your fingerd in the radiator cap, if you end up with black gunk on them then it's blowing two stroke into the cooling system

I dunno, the Chinese stuff is pretty good if you're using it lightly. As long as you have a healthy engine to compare against as a reference you should alright.

Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY A CHEAP HEADGASKET.

In all my years of building DTR engines, the cheap head gaskets don't work. Buy Athena, buy PJME.

                        https://www.pjme.co.uk/acatalog/Yamaha-TZR125R-Full-Gasket-Set-Athena--3359.html#SID=297

What's the code on your cylinder and I'll link you to what you need.

If it was nicasil plated then it'll be the 4FU barrel which will run a 3MB head gasket.

                            Which will be like that.

I think you'll be amazed with what you can get away with with regards to plating. I built an Athena 170 with a scored barrel and that runs a treat.

Just wondering of you have done something similar in the past ive got that other DT engine and the bottom end looked very similar with the oil pump etc would I be able to run that in the TZR without messing with the loom or would I have to change CDI ive got a few old ones in the parts bin if that is the case was just sat thinking maybe I could chuck that engine in for time being to get her moted and then fault check the gaskets and seal on the other one? I know the gearing would be a bit different just thought ide ask before I test it out when weather n my health permits

The old TZR 125 RR 4DLs practically ran DTR bottom ends, tuned by Minarelli.

The barrels on those bikes are insane.

Frame looks same bottom end on tht looks like the dtr engine I have my 4hw has no cover over the oil pump and has some kind of make shift bracket for the oil cable. Looks like they chopped my frame and put a heavy duty swingarm on for that 4DL raised the coolant tank and put bat under the seat. Thats why I asked cause surely the 4 wires from the engine are the same or do I have to change the flywheel coil bit of forget its name now. I think i'll give it a bash as I got to remove the engine anyway if the mountings are the same and it wires up maybe I can put a DT rear sprocket on.

Food for thought ive got to get the energy to get at it first i'll look over that cdi wiring diagrams thing you shared and go from there just hope the exhaust mounts dont throw it out of whack.

I'm hands on so once got all the parts in sight i'll hopefully make sense of it all feel free to leave suggestions etc like I said before wish I had someone here to help me out going to be fun though so hopefully will give me more incentive.
