Hello everyone! I am the current owner of a 1988 swiss edition Yamaha Dt125R (3DD engine code). I've been having problems with power. I know it's restricted to 9kw but I'm wondering how. If I'm not wrong only the expansion chamber is different than on a full power dtr, on the other hand I saw someone on here post about cutting up a 3DD pipe and it only had a catalytic converter (which mine also has) but as far as I know the catalytic converter doesn't affect power, only sound and emissions.
So now I'm wondering what I should try to get some more power out of it. Thank you for your help!

From my experience, the catalytic converter was so restrictive that I cannot fathom how it possible could not have an adverse effect.

I do think, leaving your pipe standard is really ideal, especially as these bikes are appreciating classics. Instead, just grab yourself a DEP pipe and be done with it, the weight saving alone is worth it!

Do you have a powervalve fitted or is it fixed?

I have the power valve fitted and it's functional. I'm thinking about selling this bike next year so if it's possible I'd rather not spend money on a new pipe. That's why I asked. I thought the catalytic converter didn't affect power but I guess I was wrong. Idk I might end up cutting the pipe up in the winter or have someone more experienced do it. Also because I want the bike to look mostly original and a shiny new pipe would definitely scream aftermarket. I also heard that after nearly 40 years the catalytic converter might got weak and brittle and that it's possible that a piece breaks off and the cylinder sucks it in which would cause an engine failure.
        Thank you for your help!

          I mean....

As I say, I can't see how this doesn't affect performance!

Oh. So there are no dead cones in the pipe? Just the cat? Because in that case I think removing it is quite straightforward and might not require cutting it completely in half. It might be possible to cut a window in the pipe and break the cat apart
