Inlet rubber3bn/3et

I have '88 3BN and it was equipped with VM28SS carb. Even user manual can proof that.

@jgr72 I’ve just discovered I have the 3et inlet with the vm28 carb I believe is this not the correct set up?

That is the correct set, I had the flatside carb with the 3bn inlet meant for the first edition carb, hard to fit carb

@oldman what’s the little black link pipe do on the 28 bud mine had a cut in it what issues could that cause it’s now replaced just wondering

The link pipe on the carb is to do with the power jet, just don't ask me what it does!

@oldman Power Jets are awesome.

Basically when the bike is at a decent load but not accelerating, it soesn't need to use all of the main jet as that is too much fuel, the power jet instead takes over which uses slightly less fuel and has a leaner mixture.

They are not there on all carbs.

Slightly of topic but the same part of the engine, is the gasket on the inlet a rubber one? There’s a rubber one on mine and it has an air leak, I remember on my other engine it was the cereal box type

@ricky0115 It should be a paper type, quite common for these to let air in here when botched.

@ricky0115 Use Athena, or OEM gaskets only.

You can get some paper gasket adhesive to just ensure it's properly sealed. It's what I've used on my engines.

@calum where’s the best place to get Athena gaskets? I remember pricing up OEM on Fowler’s for the top end was like £40 for 2 gaskets

Just received set for the 89 bike, ordered via ebay, £20 something, used before on the 88, athena the way to go

@ricky0115 For gaskets and obtaining authentic genuine athena gaskets. Choose none other than PJME.

But personal preference. I use eBay for almost everything else.

Loctite Adhesive Spray.

Bought that like 5 years ago and still use it today.

People will no doubt say it's unnecessary. All I can say is I've only built engines with it and never had any problems. But I'll admit it's potentially over cautious.

@calum it was made for a reason why not use it! Especially on that annoying gasket on top of the carb
