Would a DT125RE CDI (2004) be the same as a DT125R CDI (2002) as from what I can see they are more or less the same bike?

The CDI's are not the same. The stator windings are different and I suspect the static angle may be different too. Since the CDI's are not reprogrammable, this renders the CDI useless.
