Has anyone either turned down or just put a plain rod in place of the balance shaft? I know from the larger 4 strokes I'm used to it really makes them pick up a lot quicker?

    Cheers

If you want it to pick up quicker, then lightening the flywheel will probably be your best bet.

It's more about easy things to do. The counter balance is only for secondary vibration and is there to serve the bike and rider from unwanted fatigue.

I can spin the balance shaft up on the lathe to reduce its mass, or I can mod it with a tube to negate it, or remover it to totally get an easy win.

@Bluestoesonnose The problem is that the balancer shaft has been designed with engine harmonics in mind. The flywheel, whilst also true, is more as an energy store and grossly overweight, making it an ideal mass remover. Note, it must be carefully balanced, and severe modifications can reduce bearing life.

NORFE off the old forum modded his flywheel and noted significant improvements

I know a lot of tuners won't touch flywheels due to the balancing of said fly wheel. If you have a lathe then you can do it yourself.

Just asking as I've just built a tt600 motor for a maico 490 alpha 1 twin shock frame and modded the balance shaft with just a tube and it picks up very quickly. The guys in the US swear by this mod
