So a few months back i was going for a ride on my dt, i started up my bike, and it ran on idle. Suddenly the bike just stopped, i picked it apart and i found no spark. I tried changing the sparkplug, the HT wire, and coil with brand new replacements. I measured resistance on the pickup coil (which was in spec) and the source coil which were lower than spec (125 ohms and it should be 192 at lowest). I checked the fuses which were fine but replaced them anyway. checked that neutral switch, clutch switch. And when i got to the sidestand switch i found that the wires was joined together to bypass the switch, and that they were no longer connected, so i soldered them together and suddenly it sparked. So i put the bike back together and was ready to start, and the same thing happened, no spark.

So i checked all connections under the fuel tank once more, found nothing wrong with the wires going to the cdi.

So this makes me wonder, could it be the source coil that has gone bad since it outputs a lower resistance than it should? As i thought it’s job was to charge the battery and not make spark.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
