DT 125 E ‘98 exhaust advice
-
Hi guys,
I have a question. I just bought a 1998 DT 125 E, and I’m currently searching for a new exhaust. I found the Athena and Giannelli exhaust but on the different sites, they all says it only fit the 99-06 DTX or DTR models, will mine fit as well ? And if not, what exhaust will fit ?
Also my on the registration document of my DT it says it’s a DT 125 E, isn’t it supposed to be a DTR 125 E? Does Yamaha made DT and DTR during the same period of time or is it just a mistake ?
Thanks in advance !

In terms of the engine, they're identical, bar the electric start. The frames are virtually the same between the R's RE/X's but where the exhaust mounts to differ ever so slightly.
Certainly coming from a genuine to a DEP exhaust, actually the additional mounts were almost redundant. Due to the considerable weight difference from the factory to the DEP, the additional mounts were total overkill. I'd imagine this holds true for all aftermarket pipes.
So regardless of the year, it'll fit the engine. But where the end cans meet, where the bracket that holds the middle piece on and where it hugs the frame differ slightly.

@Titi-DT
I have a DEP for DTRE on my DTR and all the mounts are off,I didn't knew that detail when i bought it used.
The end can is 2cm sorter at the point it meets the tube from the expansion chamber because the mount point is 2cm further back it needs a longer rubber joint.
The middle mount point is off and made a custom bracket.
The one mount point that has the metal/rubber joint is also off and made a bracket of aluminum.
Only the engine mounts are ok.If that info apply to all aftermarket exhaust as @Calum mentioned then find the right one for your bike, unless you want extra work.

Is it a European import? Can you post pics? Or give us the first 4 letters&numbers of the engine and frame?
It must be European if it’s an E (electric start) on a 98 plate…I used to have a DT125e, it was a sweet late 70’s air cooled enduro styled bike with on the (21inch) wheel front mudguard, peanut tank and low slung seat. A black & white thing of beauty that only just did 60mph! ️ …
Need pics or/& more info, like does it have an electric start button & motor or a kickstart?…

My DT is a 1998 DT 125 E (it’s what is says on the document) it has a water cooled engine with kickstart and electric start, I’ll get you pictures tomorrow
It’s my first bike ever and I want to keep that nice vintage looking it has, I just want to change those big blinker, the exhaust and the plate older, the rest will stay stock (maybe et supermoto conversion if possible)
