Hi everyone,

I recently got a 1994 Yamaha DT175 and I’m still figuring out the maintenance for it.

After about 132 km of riding, the red oil light came on. I checked the blue 2-stroke oil tank under the seat, and it still has oil in it, so I’m a bit confused about why the light is on.

I had a few questions:
1. Does the DT175 have any sensor for the transmission/gearbox oil, or is the red oil light only connected to the 2-stroke oil tank?
2. Could there be a faulty oil level sensor or float in the 2-stroke oil tank that would cause the light to come on even when there’s oil in the tank?
3. How often should the gearbox oil be changed, and how often should the 2-stroke oil system be checked or serviced on these bikes?

Just trying to make sure everything is working properly before riding it more.

Hey everyone, I’ve got a question about my Yamaha DT175.

It’s a 2-stroke bike and I’ve been filling the tank with regular petrol only for the last ~100 km. I haven’t been mixing in any 2-stroke oil — just straight petrol.

Do I actually need to be mixing 2-stroke petrol with oil for this bike, or is it okay to run it on regular petrol like I’ve been doing?

I’m trying to identify the correct design year / trim for my Yamaha DT175 so I can order the right decals and graphics kit.

The situation is a bit confusing:
• The bike is a 2025 production
• But I know the DT platform hasn’t changed visually for many years
• Decal sellers usually list graphics by design year / trim, not production year

What I want to do is:
• Match my bike’s frame, tank shape, side panels, and fenders
• Figure out which older model year graphics will fit correctly
• Avoid ordering decals that don’t align with mounting points or panel shapes

If anyone knows:
• How to correctly identify the design generation
• Which older DT175 model years share the same plastics and graphics layout
• Or how you personally matched decals on newer-production DT175s

Also do the fmf power core2 exhaust fit properly? or does it need welding
and is there ANY exhaust that fits perfectly???
plus what modifications do you all recommend???

I’d really appreciate the guidance. Photos or references would help a lot too.
