DT175 oil light + oil change questions
-
Hi everyone,
I recently got a 1994 Yamaha DT175 and I’m still figuring out the maintenance for it.
After about 132 km of riding, the red oil light came on. I checked the blue 2-stroke oil tank under the seat, and it still has oil in it, so I’m a bit confused about why the light is on.
I had a few questions:
1. Does the DT175 have any sensor for the transmission/gearbox oil, or is the red oil light only connected to the 2-stroke oil tank?
2. Could there be a faulty oil level sensor or float in the 2-stroke oil tank that would cause the light to come on even when there’s oil in the tank?
3. How often should the gearbox oil be changed, and how often should the 2-stroke oil system be checked or serviced on these bikes?Just trying to make sure everything is working properly before riding it more.
Thanks for any help.

Not familiar with a 1994 DT175 (I presume this is from the Asia (Far East) market).
The oil light will just be for the two stroke. There are no sensors that do gearbox, the most you get is a Neutral Light sensor (if you're lucky).
For the gearbox oil, the only sensors you see are with your eye balls and the oil sight glass.
I can't 100% say this is the case, but I say it with high confidence that this will be the case.
Hopefully that's useful.
