Now that the 2004 DTR has gone, its a choice between a 1999 or 2000 DTR. I believe they both have electric and kick start
Are DTRE's 2004 onwards? I would have imagined the newer models are harder to get parts for, is this correct?

Is it not a case of chopping and earthing that wire in the CDI?
There is a very high chance I will get a zeeltronic CDI anyway 8-)
The 2004 has gone, he has a 1999 and a 2000. He says they slightly changed the 1999 model mid year, so it is the same as the 2000.
Thank you for the responses
Hi all,
I am looking to buy another DT, I have found two euro imports with very low mileage. One is a 1999 and one is a 2004, both of them have under 5k miles on them and appear to be completely stock.
I much prefer the aesthetic of the older one as it has a nicer shape, colour and a kickstarter!!
Mechanically, how different are the two machines? Price and condition wise, I think the bikes are very similar.
Thanks in advance!
Where can someone get a 'map' from? Is it something that is unique to each bike?
Hi all,
I need to replace the cylinder head on my dt125x and am unsure about a few things -
Will any 3BN head fit?
What does the 'Y' number on the head indicate?
Is there a certain one that can give better performance over stock?
Are there any big no-no's when choosing a 2nd hand head?
Thanks in advance
Hi all,
I'm going to look at 1998 dt 125 thats been imported from France. It is completely stock and has very low mileage but no logbook etc to support that. What should I be looking out for?
The stuff I already know to check is suspension quality and spoke tension. I was also going to check every screw/nut/bolt etc to try and figure out how much it has been taken apart.
I already have a dt 125 but it was my first bike and I made a lot of mistakes and have wasted a lot of money. I'm doing my best not to make the same mistake twice! Thanks in advance
Hi all,
I'm looking to pick up a DT 125 for green laning and messing around on, which year/model would you guys recommend searching for? Or should I just look for the best price vs condition bike and go from there? I'm not in a rush to purchase.
Thanks!
Thank you for response, I think I will try a set of dual sport tyres for the mean time. At this moment I can only dream of a 2nd dt!
Have you tried the Avon Trailriders off road yet?
Great tutorial Calum, I will be giving this a go once I can get my hands on some polish.
Are there any other areas of the bike that could benefit from similar treatment?
I have a dt x but have recently got addicted to green laning and thought it would be cool to have a set of knobblies I can put on at the weekends. I guess it would be easier to hotswap wheels than change tyres every 5 days
The haynes manual says dt x's are mechanically the same as dt r's except for the rear brake caliper and 'modified front forks (without gaiters)'
Does this mean I can look for a set of dt r wheels on ebay? Will it be a pain in the ass swapping them over regularly?
Sorry if any of these are idiot questions, I only got my cbt 6 months ago and hadn't sat on a bike before
Hi everyone, I got my first bike, a dt 125 x about 6 months ago and have been hooked on motorbikes since! mine has spent more time off the road than on it but I wouldn't have it any other way because its such an incredible bike. I am looking forward to learning more about this bike and 2 strokes in general!
