Loose style exhaust packing

Has anyone used this type I can’t picture In my head the way you pack the loose type and I’m not sure If it’s better than the normal roll style, any other input on exhaust packing in general is welcome thanks.

Think I've wrapped it in something then rolled around the perforated tube.
Years ago I used a tea towel for baffling when I was skint. Let's just say it didn't last long....
