DT200R Forks
-
Did a search and couldn’t find a post relating to this.
I want to know if anyone has any experience with the 200r’s forks, they have some type of air release don’t they?
How much better are they over the standard ones and are the 125r front end parts backwards compatible with 200r
(I know the front wheel is bolt on it’s mainly the brake/rotor side of things I’m worried about)Realistically I probably won’t but I’ve seen a set on eBay for £90 and I’m just toying with the idea of ditching the USD’s and grabbing them.
It’s the boring option by comparison but they’d look really nice and can be polished easy and they’d save a bunch of time and money doing the USD YZ front end swap -
@Stevie-Wonder if you just want a simple front suspension upgrade then grab these.

I have never used it myself, but they've been on the market forever so I am sure you will find someone that's used them.

It’s a Schneider valve (spelling) like on a tyre. it’s so you can use gas in the shocks instead of air. Stops the oil going frothy under hard use, I think...
Are dt200r’s much heavier than the 125? I wouldn’t of thought that they would be much uprated, and definitely no comparison to an MX fork... -

From what I can guess you use a simply just use a bike pump to adjust the psi within the forks thus giving you variable damping.
Also nope, the 200R’s are barely any different but as is the way with bikes the bigger engined bike gets all the good parts. Also callum they look interesting... I’ve never heard of anyone using them either and let’s be honest you can’t get more straightforward then just swapping springs.
Also in terms of the suspension upgrade, watch this. I was shocked.

Full slick road tires as well
I also never knew DT200R’s made it state side -

YZ490 1987 forks?
YZ250 1988 Forks?
Like, wayyyy better.
Now that’s also a shout to be fair bro
Would it also be an option putting springs that Calum put the link up for in the 200r forks?Just thinking because you know how things go, the only place you’re getting those forks is good ‘ole trump land (and paying through the nose for it too).
I’ve kinda talked myself out of USD’s somehow.
Something about straying to far from what I already love about the bike and making something unrecognisable to me doesn’t feel right. All of your wisdoms have rung true, I’d rather just save up and buy my next kinda dream bike a WR200/DT200WR and make subtle improvements on the 125 rather then trying to make it into something it’s not.
Plus the USD’s are heavy as fuck and I’ve been told kill your turning circle and I love the OG fork boots.Idk I just think I should spend more time enjoying what I have and how nice it is before creating something else/reinventing it.
Maybe just upgraded forks, rear shock and some engine work / zeeltronic -

Nope, it doesn’t adjust the damping. It’s a dial or turn thing that affects the flow of oil that affects damping. It’s so they can fill it with a gas (nitrogen?) which doesn’t make tiny bubbles in the oil when the shock is compressed in/out when under mental use 🤪
air filled oil is thinner and makes the damping impaired. Kinda like when red hot brakes fade...I’ve never used them, but I’ve only ever heard good things about progressive springs...

@Calum
If you really are in three minds what to do, get the progressive springs and put them in the standard forks. Put the yz’s on the back plate for later...As soon as I suss out how to do pics from my iPhone I’ll post some pics of how my Yz forks/head stock are done..

Just put on your set of USDs, I don't know why you're overthinking it.
If you have the storage, I'd recommend keeping your old forks for the future.
I do, too much time, to many potential options and an urge to get things done quick
I also felt a weird urge to just not mess with the bike for once and just leave it relatively standard after what we said.As with my build/bike anything removed goes in the loft and left alone.
Even if that weren’t the case I plan on keeping it anyways.I actually read on here that someone made a custom axle for the DTR hub so they could use their DTR front wheel in their USD’s and thanks to the disk size being the same and the WR200’s and then sharing bolt patterns you just do the ole switcharoo.
Perfect for me because I can have a trail/road Kenda K270 wheelset that’s 18/21 and my 21/19 set for knobblies
In other news Facebook didn’t bid a successful sale and only led to me explaining to people that you can’t swap stems and that they don’t bolt on some I’m just cracking on with it and keeping them anyway.
