Crankcase Sealant; What's Everyone Using?
-
Morning all, as title really, had a quick search online and there's a fair bit of confusion around this as you can imagine.
Always used to use Blue Hylomar on TZR/TDR250s back in the day with no issues but they have horizontally split cases so the join is not constantly below 800ml of gearbox oil, not sure if this would be OK on vertical cases.
Thanks, hope someone can help!

@hotshot-iii This is so ANNOYING!
Use quality stuff.
I recently done my engine and I used Hondabond. But Yamaha do one called Yamabond. I also hear good stuff about Threebond.

It's expensive for a reason!
Now Millyard paints this stuff on with a small painters brush, which allows a thin even coat to be applied, which is a neat trick.
Not much is needed, so a lot gets wasted, but trust me, as someone who has used other "recommended" stuff in the past and had nothing but leaks. It's a job worth doing right!

@hotshot-iii are you talking about anaerobic sealant? I've used a cheap gastight brand and it seems fine used it on 2 engines one of which is a dt engine but tbh it's better to stick the yamabond it really is the best in the business permatex has yamabond under there own brand so it's cheaper do some searching and you will find it

always used Reinzosil, never failed me.- always using a thin layer of loctite 5923 for the head gaskets, never failed me either.

My crank case has been leak free even using synthetic gear oil, for 4000 miles now. I used generic red semi hardening Hermatite like stuff. Blue Hylomar was good enough for Rolls Royce, but I really think itโs all about preparation. Make sure the surfaces to be mated are flat, level clean and grease free...
Then cross your fingers when you fill it with gear oil!

Blue Hylomar
This was what was recommended to me and did nothing but leak. I've used it on several components and never had success. As I say, the bond stuff seems to be the
goto
kiddy everyone is using these days. I recently redone my DT engine with the Hondabond and it hasn't had a drop since.
