Powervalve cap, right hand side question
-
Hello, My powrvalve cap on right hand side like a lot of others has sheared off where it bolts on so a washer is used to hold it in place due to its poor design…
I’ve had it a few times though since where pressure still forces it open, leaks and sometimes fires it down the road..If you look at the inside of the cap the brass bush inside is damaged too..my mate thinks this could be the reason why this is happening?? Do you reckon this isn’t helping too and can this be replaced if so? I cant see it on the parts diagram?
Any advice or opinion is much appreciated

@DTGREENLANER Looks like you can get a replacement part from Yambits

Ok mate cheers. There £50 though
Do you reckon that brass bush inside the cover plays a part in supporting the powervalve and really with how it looks I should replace it?
Because we was thinking just to make a bracket off the frame to keep it shut so it wouldn’t matter about the poor design?

@DTGREENLANER I have seen videos and read that those brass bushes are really important.
There is a video floating about with a chap on a TDR250 where the bushes were so worn that it allowed for the piston to hit the valve and seized the engine.
So £50 is cheaper than a rebore, new piston and fixing what else breaks.

£10? Genuine

@SpookDog I mean, I've never had a genuine one crack on me, but it doesn't sound great if it's happening a lot.
I thought I saw a billet one on the internet that someone was making. If you can find that then that might be worth getting as that will be stronger than stock.
The ones on the Athena 170 kit look billet made. I wonder if that'll fit the 125 barrel.

@DTGREENLANER Yeah it's interesting, I've had my DT since 2010 and It's never been an issue for me so it's most odd.
The only thing I can think is perhaps the powervalve is warped or there is something causing untoward forces on it.

Yeah I figured it was a tenner more. I don’t know why the rest of my post disappeared though! It was meant to say “that’s a no brainer!!” after Genuine has always been better in my experience...
I was gonna say if you have any way of making it to copy the shape of the cap (& bolt hole) out of stainless steel, as a re enforcement plate.
There really should not be any sideways pressure on it though. I would of thought that it was over tightening that caused it in the first place... -
Yeah Ive had mine many of years to and only done it since the bolt bit sheared off.
Ah right, hopefully not! I’m hoping it’s happening just because the bolt bit had sheared off and using the washer idea doesn’t make it a tight fit…so it can easily open up and fly down the road..causing damage to it the brass bush when it impacts the concrete that’s what im hoping anyway lol

Ahh I got ya! Yeah I’ve always tried to go genuine, just seeing if I could save a bit of money as I got 3 vehicles as it is and I’m trying to save up for a house lol
Ok mate thank you, When I get my mate to make something I’ll upload a picture of the finished result.
Yeah hopefully it’s just what I’m hoping it could be in my message back to Calum lol
