    Morning guys

    Noobie here

    Bought myself a 2006 dt125x fixer upper

Currently doesn’t run and want to get it running before I strip it to get the frame powder coated

Issue I have is while holding the start button there’s no spark but as soon as I release the start button there’s a few sparks before the motor stops

I have purchased a brand new battery for her.
Neutral light is on and side stand switch checks out ok

Gonna start testing everything this weekend and run a wire to the starter to bypass the start button and see if she sparks.

Has anyone come across this before?

    Thanks in advance

    Steve

Check the cables between the ignition switch and the loom. If they oxidise it'll cause problems.

      The CDI could be faulty.

Double check the coil impedance against the manual. Make sure the HT Lead and spark plug is okay.

Ensure the generator is functioning as intended.

Tried running wire to starter first with ignition on and she fires up and runs.

I’m thinking there must be a short somewhere or a bad connection

I read something about issues with ignition switch so might start with this

@morty I literally said ignition switch.

Not necessarily the switch, but the connector block.

                  You did 👍

There is some oxidation on the connector block

I’ll clean up and try again

                  Thanks

@morty Try some electrical contact cleaner.

I had to cut the block, mine was beyond saving. So it's bullet crimps at the moment, which is a pity.

                      Think I’ve cracked it

After cleaning clutch switch connector she starts every time 👍

@morty Ah yeah, see the DTR's don't have that problem because they don't have a clutch switch!
