1997 DT125R rear light and indicator wire identification, please help!
-
Hello there guys, first post! brought an old 1997 dt125r in really good condition and so far I'm loving it but need some advice.
I have replaced the rear light and cowl for the reg plate as the light wasn't working and like a numpty when I disconnected the light and indicators i wasn't paying attention to what goes where. (The indicators were working). I have looked for the right wiring diagram but it's abit confusing.
The wires I have coming out at the back are: white, light blue, brown (chocolate?), black and white, blue and yellow, green and black, and red.
If anyone could tell me what goes where or has links to the right wiring diagram and could help me it would be so so appreciated as it's the last thing that needs fixing. I won't make that mistake again!
Thanks in advance!

Brown and green are usually the live/positive to the indicators. Sorry, can’t say which is left or right. The earth is usually black. Look for a black or black/white stripe with a double bullet connector (female). This will be the indicators earth.
The tail light you can try either and the brightest is the brake light.
On my bike the black/white wire is the earth for the tail light. Mine is blue for brake light. Yellow is taillight...
Hope this is some help ... -

Can’t help you with the different permutations (new word I’m trying out) but generally it’s similar. Brown & green are indicators. I looked through the manual and unless you know your code it’s confusing. It took me ages to suss out which diagram was relevant to my bike. Even then it’s not identical. I have two relays under the seat that are in none of the diagrams. That and missing wires and colour changes make the manual almost useless for wiring in my case...
Good luck!..
The one on page 172 works best for me. Try counting the wires going to your CDI. That’s how I did it in the end. Find the one that matches your’s... -
Thanks so much for your help spookdog. I've just about cracked it, got the rear indicators working again! just gonna go through the process of elimination on the back light now.
Rear left indicator was brown / green & black.
Rear right indicator was red/ blue & yellowLeaves me with black & white, light blue, yellow for the rear light.
Just gonna eat my dinner then get back to it! Finally some success
EDIT: Just realised that works out to exactly what you've said for the back light too so should be easy now

Really struggling with the back light, can't get no power to it at all! It's one of those aftermarket led ones if that makes any difference I've got a multimeter coming today. Do I just check for continuity from the tail, brake, and earth?
Thanks in advance for any more help on this guys, frustrating not being able to ride it at night -
Just find the one that’s giving out 12v when the lights are on. Then 12v only when the brake is on. My headlight/taillight doesn’t work unless the engine is running. The brake light works from the battery...
Try doing it ticking over. The black will be the earth. You’ll get it, it’s just a process of elimination
