DT125R fuel out of the overflow
-
Hi, just fired up my DT after a couple of weeks non-use, filled it up from a fuel container at home and after filling about 3/4 up to the tank, turned on the fuel stop-cock/switch and quite a bit of fuel poured out of the overflow. Stopped when ever I turned off the fuel. Eventually it did stop coming out, probably down lost a couple of litres. Fired up no problem and no other issues.
Anyone know if it sounds like the sheer volume of fuel is forcing itself past some worn carb bits?
Once had the opposite of this on an old BMW diesel car, when one of the 2 pumps stopped working, if you kept it topped up enough would have a problem, due to 'weight' of fuel.
Thanks, Mark

@gibboharps had a similar issue before, went out side one night to find I’d lost half a tank of fuel. For about a week on and off the carb would leak out the overflow until one night I thrashed it a bit more then I should’ve only for it to fix itself.
I figured a bit of shit fuel got stuck or dirt stopped the thing from seating properly

I’ve had similar temperamental problems with this (& a 100 other things!!)
The only thing it can be is the needle valve that is operated by the floats (or the floats themselves!)old fuel varnish or dirt is the usual suspect...
You can get a replacement kit I think. The needle and the brass insert it fits into...
A good inspection and clean is usually good enough...
P.S. the ‘weight’ of fuel can exasperate the situation, or it has in my experience (which isn’t much!)...
