Sooo I have two pretty beaten up stock mikuni tm28ss carbs out of which im hoping to get a single functional one. This is my first carburated bike im working on so i need your help otherwise im toast. Upon opening up one carb i saw this: https://imgur.com/GZxcLuH its not that visible in the photo but the right hand side bracket that holds the pin for the floats is snapped clean off (im guessing making this carb unusable). Upon opening up carb number 2 I saw this https://imgur.com/qYvScym which looks pretty good (yes needs cleaning and the jets underneath probably need some love and what not) BUT on the outside of the carb this little pipe (which ive no clue what is does) is all messed up and bent and cracked https://imgur.com/thgq6Xc .What does this pipe do? is any of em savable? Also carb number 2 has no choke https://imgur.com/aJkwzQt but im guessing i can take it off the first one and replace it?? Im so lost over here lads...all help is appreciated

Tyre size? That’s absolutely fine, never had a chain cover to begin with. Thanks

Tyre size?Currently ordering tyres for my sumo setup. Anyone know if a 150/60 rear will have clearance issues? Will the 150 fit or will i have to move to a 140 rear?

WR200 front end?Fair enough mate and thanks for that thorough reply. I would just like to make clear that my bike has 17” wheels with street tires and will likely never see any dirt during my ownership. I spent my riding time annoying my neighbours and doing wheelies like an idiot. We can all agree that the front suspension is in great need of some type of upgrade, but would the XT600 springs and heavier oil be in the stock shocks be a suitable or at least sufficient fit for my type of road use?

WR200 front end?I’m sure it has been discussed already but I was told the WR200 front end with the USDs directly drops in the DTR frame. Is that actually the case or is there a need for adaptors and bearing cup fabrication and all that jazz Calum has extensively explained in the past?

Seized Engine@Calum how would you go about dealing with this? Is there a smarter/better way of going about it than just tearing the engine down to bolts and going from there? Also while we’re at it, what should be done to the head besides it getting skimmed?

Seized Engine@SpookDog some side movement may be normal but i can’t possibly believe what im looking at is okay. Give this a look and give the video a listen:

Seized EngineWell i finally had the time to dive into it yesterday. pulled the engine out (which was a much bigger pain than anticipated) and dove into the top end. Needless to say, this is going to be a tricky one. Theres a huge chunk missing from the left side of my piston, plenty of coolant in the bottom end and the connecting rod is rattling left and right like a mf. Also it appears a metal headgasket was used(?). Since i wasnt mentally prepared to dive into the bottom end and fully rebuild this thing I am in grave need of all the help and advice i can get. Cheers
(also ive been trying to upload/link pictures and a video for like 20' now and i cant seem to figure it out)

Seized Engine@MadGyver my guy! you just made my life a whoooole lot easier. Na sai kala!

Seized Engine@HOTSHOT-III ok thats plently comprehensive. I think i know what im looking for but ill be back for follow-ups if i get stuck anywhere. Thanks again

Seized Engine@SpookDog hello mate, the bike is either a 93 or a 96 dtr and I find myself based is Greece. I dont know how the bike locked up or how bad the damage really is since i havent dove into it yet; im going off what my friend told me. The bike has had a fair amount of time to cool down (in fact it has sat for about a year) and I fear greatly finding coolant into my cylinder and having to tear the whole thing apart to deal with that rusty mess. im being hopeful for the moment and trying to figure out how i would deal with the best case scenario. As soon i get into it (should be during the weekend) i ll be running back here asking for additional help.

Seized Engine@HOTSHOT-III ok first of, thanks for the help. My bike is a 93 model (or 96 i always get confused) so i think i will go about repairing the pump as you suggested. Im not based in the UK so ive no clue what fowlers is but from what i saw yambits provides all the shims i would need.
Now on to that throttle cable splitter box mechanism thingy...please help me understand what is and what needs to be done. Im new to the platform and got me bare confused since ive no idea what youre talking about. also if there are parts that i should opt for or definitely avoid i would appreciate some suggestions. -
Seized EngineCheers mate! Would you recommend any particular trust-worthy gasket kit for the dt?

Seized EngineSo I bought a piece of poo of a DTR from a friend for dirt cheap BUT with a seized motor. He told me the engine seized on him once, he had it rebored and fitted with a new piston, rings etc and he started running (poorly ratioed) premix since he suspected a faulty oil pump. A couple of months later, while riding, the engine shut off while idling at a red light and from that point on the motor has once again been seized. As a noobie going into my first 2-stroke rebuild, (assuming theres no crankshaft play) apart from dealing with re-reboring,piston,rings,seals etc and replacing the oil pump, is there anything else that should be obviously checked and could be the root of the problem? Any and all help is appreciated! thanks lads

Suzuki dr125sm wheels?@MadGyver Its always nice to find fellow compatriots in every community. Thanks a lot for the tips I’ll explore those options. Do you by any chance know of any decent mechanics in athens that deal with 2-strokes? My engine was seized so the cylinder has sure seen better days and is in need of at least some honing.
-
Suzuki dr125sm wheels?Okay thanks. Sheesh lots to learn and lots to do! I should probably begin a new thread purely asking for help while rebuilding this thing cause this sure has gone in a different direction than just SM wheels and i sure have a ton more questions. One last thing however, mine is a 1996 4BL bike, I was under the impression this model has one of the better CDIs (?) would the zeeltronic make that much of a difference that it should be moved up in my list of priorities? Thanks again.
-
Suzuki dr125sm wheels?@Calum Thats honestly good advice, my bike is in shambles still anyway. Im getting ahead of myself. Quick follow-up, what is a zeeltronic ignition system and why do it need it? Also are you talking about the Hyperpro fork kit or would you suggest something different?
-
Suzuki dr125sm wheels?@Calum Ive always wanted to build a supermoto and this frankly is the only way j can afford to do the swap. i’ve looked at all the usual swaps from other models with no luck finding parts (i live in greece so the used market isn’t the greatest) and i certainly cant afford to get new rims and spokes and lace them to the DT hubs. Size wise i feel the DR wheels should be just fine, its just a matter of getting them to fit. Is there a way to make it work with the stock break calliper (with new brackets and/or new rotors)?
-
Suzuki dr125sm wheels? So i found a set of suzuki dr125sm wheels with brand new tires, rotors, calipers and everything for dirt cheap. Does anyone know if they'd fit a '96 DTR and if so, what modification would be required to make it happen? Wheels are 2.5x17 front and 3.5x17 rear.
Also Im completely new to the platform (and motorcycles all together for that matter) and delighted to have found such an active community around it.
