Who is Mick Andrews? Lol. Mick Abbey is who I used.

It's worth doing if you're looking for more power, but you really need a programmable ignition system to advance the ignition to make use of the more aggressive porting.

If the transfers are being opened then you will want a bigger carburettor to help flow more fuel/air into the engine. VHSA is a good carb. I've heard good things about Lectron carbs as well.

It's a slippery slope for sure.

Got the programmable Zeel unit, looking at a DT200 carb and airbox rubber.

That's the Mick, the other one is a mate, lol

@Bluestoesonnose Welcome to the world of modifying. It's simple really, own a standard car or bike and enjoy it's stock performance.

        OR

Modify it and eventually after much expense, get even greater pleasure out of your bespoke pride and joy!!! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

We'll see, I've still got the mental scars from tuning an RD350 and RD350YPVS in the late 80s early 90s

@Bluestoesonnose Yeah, they're pretty savage beasts compared to the DTR mind you.

To be honest I just want it to pull harder through the gears, not too worried about top end as I can always go up a tooth on the front sprocket if I can get it pulling from lower down

@Bluestoesonnose Getting that map sorted on the Zeel will make a big difference, and I'm not just talking about ignition timing. Don't overlook the powervalve timings, especially if you decide to have the cylinder and head ported.

Having the head modified will make a big difference to that mid-range power.

@Bluestoesonnose I have a fully ported Mick Abbey 3MB00 barrel with Mick Abbey skimmed 3MB head if your interested will send you some photos. Don't need it as I now have a fully ported Athena 170 kit on my DT now.

@2stroketerry thanks for the kind offer but my head and barrel are on their way after a call to Mick. Seems for the kind of time I'm looking for a bigger carb isn't required
