Yamaha dt 125 clutch making a noise
-
@Calum thanks man but have you got any idea what it could be? It really doesn't sound healthy, I changed my oil to a much better one aswell and that didn't do anything but when I tried to source the problem out I found a weird Grey putty like kind of stuff in the casing so I don't know what that could be
-
@Tristan The oil can go really grey when the water pump impeller seal goes and coolant leaks into the crank cases.
Open up the radiator cap and see if there is any oil in the coolant.
-
@Calum yes I checked that already and I checked the impella aswell and its working fine, I got a feeling it could be maybe a bearing but again I'm not 100% sure
@Tristan
A bearing wouldn’t sound loose. Have you checked the nuts on the crank gear, balancer shaft and clutch? These are the only ones that spin and have tightening nuts on them (I think!)...Does the noise change when you pull in the clutch lever? Or when you cycle through the gears?...
Looked at the magneto side?...

@SpookDog no it's a constant noise wether I pull the clutch in or not or wether I'm in gear or not obviously just can't hear it while I'm riding cause of the higher revs but when it idles or I stop at a red light it makes the noise I really can't figure it out another guy today told me that it's normal for a dt but it's weird that it only came after a month after I rebuilt it, it was quiet few days ago

Take a video of it, post it on YouTube then give us a link so we can listen in, bud...
Really need to hear exactly what you mean... -
Hi all, I have a old yamaha dt 125r 1983 that I rebuilt and converted to motard but I have only been riding it for a month with no problems till the other day I heard my clutch is making a bad noise almost like something is lose but when I opened my clutch I saw everything was fine besides my notched basket, could it be that the clutch is run in? I don't think it could be but some people said it's possible, just really annoying when I idle the bike it has that lose noise but it hasn't done anything to the power or problem starting, everything seems right and works fine it's just it has that noise
Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated thanks in advance
Tristan. -
@SpookDog okay cool I'll get to that tomorrow some time but how exactly do I post it so you guys can see?
-
@Tristan hey guys I'm sending the link through now with my bike idling and the noise, would be greatly appreciated if you guys could take a listen and let me know what you think

@Tristan
Mine sounded like that when the piston was slapping. I don’t think that’s the case with yours, as yours still clicks as it dies. If your noise came on suddenly then it might be kick start related. Try moving the kickstart down a bit while the engine is running. Be careful though, please!! See if it alters the sound...
I can’t remember the ins and outs of the mechanism how the kickstart engages at the mo. I’ll look into it... -

@Calum but the noise is literally only coming from the clutch side, my guess is it's either something to do with the waterpump or even the flywheel, I'll put the cover off tomorrow and check the flywheel, I know on my mates husky hes flywheel key broke and it made a similar noise but I'll definitely get back to you guys as soon as I know something, really appreciate the time guys thank you

@Tristan
Dude, check the throw-out cog on the kickstart shaft. It sounds like it’s not disengaging properly... -
@SpookDog I actually turned the Kickstarter while the bike was idling and normally it would make a noise but it didn't so I actually do think it might be that,I'll get a new gasket and pull the casing off to check the Kickstart shot man

@Tristan
Sweet , it’s definitely that, keep us informed. I like to know when things actually work out... -
