Hi I’m mick, bought a project Dt125r last Christmas and still having problems with the spark, it sparks when kicked over slowly but stops when kicked over quickly. I’ve changed the stator plate, pick up, fly wheel, cdi, coil, fitted a regulator, new battery. It is a off road, year 2000 model 3rm. I’ve had bikes all my life and never come across this problem, please help I’m desperate!

@goprokid95 Most people mess with the wiring loom and try to delete the side stand switch but don't understand how to. Thus cripple the ignition system.
Similar story on a 2001 DTR I had years ago. Spark was intermittent, and the only way (at the time) I knew how to fix it was to delete the side stand switch altogether.
I know on my RE, the side stand switch gets caked in muck etc, so it could be dirty contacts.
But I have found in the past, intermittent spark has been caused by dodgy connections in the kill switch/neutral switch/clutch switch/side stand switch.

@calum For sure, the reason why I removed my side stand was to allow the machine to warm up whilst I'm not sat on it. It's true enough though as my side stand is still plugged in and hidden in my airbox for safe keeping.
I will consider removing it, bathing it and then refitting and seeing how I get along with this! Thanks again for the help, always appreciated!

@GoProKid95 The side stand switch doesn't prevent you from warming the bike up when you are not on it.
It stops you from riding off with the stand down. You should be able to warm the bike up whilst it's ticking over on the stand. Sounds to me like the neutral switch was at fault there. As it didn't know that the bike wasn't in gear.

You can dismantle the switch. The flat plate is held on by screws and the round end is actually a large nut. They come apart and can be cleaned / contacts bent inwards and then put back together.
The faults come from either wear or watre ingress

Ditto, if the bike doesn’t know it’s in neutral it will assume it’s in gear and kill the ignition if the stand is down.
On my bike (1988) the red oil light comes on when you first start the engine, then goes off when you put it into a gear. I also have 2 solenoids that are connected to the ignition circuit via the sidestand switch, ect. It’s different on the 1997 on bikes, and then again on the RE bikes.PS, have you tried a different spark plug?

Yes tried a different plug with same problem. I have change all components that are needed, it is off road so no ignition, lights, etc. I think I may investigate the neutral light switch and see what happens it can,t be the side stand switch because it sparks intermittently.
Changed stator plate and pick up, fly wheel, cdi unit, coil, battery, regulator.
It did run a while ago and I thought I’d cured it, once I made the wiring more secure and ready to test ride, it wouldn’t start. I thought it could of been a fault in the harness and had a friend of mine sort it out and get rid of the unessecary wires. Still no joy🤬. The only thing untouched is the neutral light switch
