Regulator/rectifier went up in smoke
-
Sorry, just finished reading the rest of the post…
Sounds like you may have a ‘sticky’ starter motor, it may of drawn way too much current which should of blown your fuse (Ahem! ??) but which took it out on your shitty fleabay part instead. Nothing personal to you, I just hate sub-par Chinese crap…
There are quality upgrade options out there that I don’t really understand. mosfet RR’s
Hopefully you know the item ID number for your original part?I’m not an expert at MC electrics by any means, but thems my guesses! …

@Calum and
Thanks for getting back to me both of you
Ah right…Does sound like it most likely was the cheap regulator then. And potentially the clicking starter solonoid didn’t help.
I’ve actually just went up the loft to my box of DT125X spares and come across another regulator with the same stamp on the back as my old original one so hopefully that should do the trick. Also rather than using my aftermarket starter solonoid which just got delivered I’ve just found a spare original one.
In my box of spares there’s also a spare loom with the 4 pin plug I will need. Before I chop it off to use, do you know if I can buy this plug online? To save chopping a good condition loom
I’ve linked pictures and the plug I could do with.

I’ve never found a compatible one. But they are common as fux. Do a search for ‘rectifier female socket motorcycle’ or similar…

@DTGREENLANER
Did you cross-reference with other Yamaha models,this company does it a lot and uses same parts to other bikes with just another part number.I think the XT's (400-500-600) use the same. -
Had a quick look atm but struggling to find anything similar atm that would fit. All different styles isnt there and you have to remember the regulator pins have a plastic wall around them so would probably need to modify that as well and different style might not stay on where it most likely wont fit the same ‘locking pin bit on the reg’
Will keep looking and worse comes to worse I’ll just chop it off this spare loom lol.

Thanks for that. I didn’t think about doing that.
I just checked and part numbers for regualtor / Rec on dt125re are
1D0H196001
Replaces 1D0-H1960-00Will look tomorrow I I can find other models using the same part
As mentioned above though I won’t need to buy another regulator if the spare I have works fine but definitely good idea if not or if something breaks in the future
Cheers

Cheers for posting that. Handy as fux, I plan on swapping my probably Chinese RR out for a later type one like yours. I didn’t even spot that the plugs are different…
Saved me a lot of searching. I did not realise how many different kinds are out there!… -
Sorry late reply, only got round to putting new plug on the other day but yeah no worries man
Replacement plug worked nicely. I replaced the regulator/rec and starter solenoid with oem parts as well and started lovely off the button. No more clicking from the starter solenoid or dodgy aftermarket rectifier going up in smoke
Cheers
