Clutch
-
Hi guys coming home from work my dtx 2005 started giving me trouble when pulling up to lights and down gear to neutral sometimes it won't go into first until I release the clutch and pull it back in any idea what it could be thanks

I get this all the time. It's one of those problems I just live with. Not even sure if it's an actual issue with the bike, or just a side effect of having a manual gearbox that was designed more than 20 years ago..
I could be wrong, but I think generally the output shaft should be rotating slightly in order for you to change gear, so when you pull up to a stop, your output shaft / front sprocket is no longer rotating if you are in neutral, and so it may be a little harder to change gear.

Yeah I too have this way to beat it is to shift into first before you come to a dead stop and my brand new bikes have also done this so I don't think it's a problem
-
It's not a problem, just a side effect of constant mesh gearboxes.
My triumph does it -
Cheers guys just a bit worried as it never use to do it and once I let go of the clutch and pull it back in it goes in gear no problem
-
I'd check the adjustment of the clutch lever just to be sure, but I think you'll be fine
Have you tried blipping the throttle when going down the box? Might make it a bit smoother -
i think my clutch needs adjusted ive really gotta pull the lever all the way in to engage the clutch and put it into 1st etc etc ....probably just an adjustment

@dragony2k how's the free play
-
lever still feels tight ....no real play as such

@dragony2k there's your problem get some slack on the cable that will give you a bigger bite point
