How quick should a dt be?
-
It should piss all over the yzf r125.
You're confusing.
You say its got a dep and a big one full system.
Which is it. You can't have both.
You either have a big one full system.
Or a dep.
Or do you mean you have a big one expansion chamber and a dep end can.
Even as stock the dt should destroy the r125. I remember kids around me having one back in the day. Unless they got a whole lot faster!
The DT isn't a pocket rocket though. They are just an all round good two stroke. Get something like an rs that will make 250 four strokes look silly.

@DevonDtr I've been looking into exhaust systems for a DTR SM project I'm currently building up at the moment but it seems the FMF system isn't official from what I've been reading. A ktm 125 FMF system can be made to fit the dt's with some modification there's a few videos on YouTube with dt's using them.

As I keep saying.
In my experience it is THE BEST bang for buck.
The power is increased throughout the rev range. The torques are massively noticeable. The peak power not so much.
Bare this is mind, any thing else you do to the engine will be multiplied when you run an aftermarket ECU.
I have had barrels ported, exhausts, Carbs, different rare "super teen" engine, and the one thing that stood above the rest was the CDI

@tdrgreg2 Super teen was a racing series for teenagers to enter. Due to their age and experience, the series was designed to race 125 two strokes.
Teens would predominately race Aprilia RS125's, Honda RS125's and the Occassional Yamaha TZR 125 RR
The engine in that bike is a direct fit into the Yamaha DT125R.
I fitted that into my DT.

@tdrgreg2 No it was worse than the RE engine lol.
It's all in that build thread.
It's a very special engine, it was an engine cast using motori minerelli stamps, indicating that it was a genuine Italian built engine.
But the casting is week, the cylinder is, well poor and it is in fact the SP you really want. Good luck getting one, it would be easier and cheaper to run another 125 super teen engine in the DT frame, like oh I don't know the Rotax 122 engine which can be had cheap and tuned better!
Can't find an example of the porting. but it's insane.
Until you look at the rotax engine, which again was mass produced, then you realise you're paying a lot of money for not much really.

Maybe but exclusivity costs money

ok people let me help you with good info u cant compare a yzf to a dt and i will tell u y yzf has same size wheels and high gears for road speed dts have 21 inch front 17 back down gearing for excel and lower gearing on front to back sprockets soo the dt top end will be about 75 standard but will get there much quicker also the yzf is a 4 stroke which is no comparision at all u want more top end use bigger front sprocket u want more excel reduce front or up back sprockets simple and afforable

ok i also know and forgot to add some have a servo others r locked on the exhaust valve i.e yvps so if yours is of the locked ilk it will be a slower type but will have 1 powerband range
