They're mostly 3mb you will need to be more specific since newer and older ones use different cdis and stators that may not be compatible.

@gilera-sc You'll want an 05-07 DTRE Engine mate.

      Any other engine won't work.

And that is IF they used the same stator plate and CDI and static angle.

Can't assume they're the same engines.

It's likely they did, but all I'd recommend a DTRE engine for would be for parts.

Unless you can guarantee fitment and nothing changed.

Usually browsing the part numbers making sure nothing changed would be your best bet.

This chap seems to think there were no revisions between the two bikes.

But not the DTRE flywheel is on the other way around to the DTR's.

Hence why you need an RE engine

@gilera-sc just wondering is it unusual for the con rod bearing to go on a 4000 mile engine as there is play on mine i also think one of the pins from the con rod bearing has come out and entered the barrel as its scored and pistons dented, rings crushed and dents to the cylinder head too!

                @gilera-sc I fitted a TZR engine

It has to be a certain model, and you have to use your electrics. And the model is a "Rare" Italian import. So unlikely to be the one you're looking at.

I'd just service your engine personally.

Budget £200 for a full nut and bolt rebuild. Very easy to do.

If the head is damaged, then it'll need machining. Unfortunately, 3MB heads are hard to come by and expensive when you do.

So having yours fixed would be cheaper and better. Get the squish altered for more performance.

The majority of the power can be made or lost in the head. So well worth getting that right.

Is it normal for the engine to go at 4K.

                A. You're assuming the bike has done 4K
                B. You're assuming engines should have a mileage limit on them.

If that engine was redlined from the factory, then no, I'd expect the engine to survive 1K miles (IF that.)

If the engine was ridden like a granny it's whole life (probably 8K) (Two strokes need to be opened up).

If the engine was ridden as intended then uh....lots of miles.

The point is, it ain't about mileage for an engine.

So long as it's well serviced, used the best oils, and ridden appropriately, the engine could do countless miles without a rebuild. Pretty sure someone on here got 30K+ out of their original bottom end.

It's all about maintenance. Piston and rings is just maintenance. Hell even the bottom end is just maintenance. Provided you keep up with the maintenance, then engine should just keep on going.

For what it's worth, I'd just rebuild the engine.

@gilera-sc I’d learn to do it your self nothing better than being able to fix any problems that are presented have a good look and make sure you know definitely that the crank is screwes because it may not be the crank at all

What was the difference in electrics between 04-05 DTRE engines Calum? Was any of them quicker than the other or were these minor changes?

@glynn123 I'm not aware of any difference between DTRE Engines.

Just that the swap between DTR and DTRE.
