1992 Purple DT on-going builld!
-
Hello to the forum! My first topic here, long time lurker though! About one and a half year ago I bought my DT125R, a purple 1992 model.
On the way home:

https://i.imgur.com/X2rGr6a.jpgAfter some care and polishing some parts:
https://i.imgur.com/npX1HYC.jpgOn it was a stock expansion pipe, with an Action Pro exhaust, that had a gigantic hole on the bottom of it. That leaked oil everywhere.. I attempted to fix it a million times...
https://i.imgur.com/AQRU5h5.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/JtVIcNz.jpgIt always kept leaking... So until a solution was found, I chucked on it a 4stroke muffler I had sitting around...
https://i.imgur.com/URJQVA4.jpgI know it's blasphemy, but this was my only ride, and I got tired of oil everywhere. The 4stroke muffler has a silencer on the end of it, with an exit diameter similar to a 2stroke silencer, so it worked remarkably well... And was very quiet... And to be honest, I liked the carbon look...
But alas, it needed a proper silencer. A friend from Athens sent me a DEP silencer that needed some care...
https://i.imgur.com/xwJpXQi.jpgAnd then came the first big modification... A set of TZR250 1KT wheels! I had to do some fabrication to make them fit, but alas, now the DT was motard!
https://i.imgur.com/gpUDZBe.jpgNext came a series of visual mods that I did, a KTM front fender:
https://i.imgur.com/SrRq3N4.jpgWrapped the whole bike in carbon fibre decal:
https://i.imgur.com/WfKgeVL.jpgRemoved all things I deemed unnecessary... (The keen eyed among you may see the license plate...)
https://i.imgur.com/1RH0Tw3.jpgThen I my piston decided to break... So it was top end time...
https://i.imgur.com/lkl8s2D.jpgI changed my opinion and decided to embrace the purple... So I removed all decals:
https://i.imgur.com/tyVMAb5.jpgI then changed my opinion again... And back to enduro it was...
https://i.imgur.com/QE4Dshm.jpgFatbar installed, along wit a new seat:
https://i.imgur.com/LjsoPWM.jpgBack to motard:
https://i.imgur.com/4lFTrAX.jpgKTM SX85 fender installed, back to motard again:
https://i.imgur.com/UmjEhik.jpgBack to enduro again... I really cant decide which set I like more...
https://i.imgur.com/d4XPoVG.jpgThe original Mikuni carb kept leaking... 3 cleanings later, it kept leaking through the overflow, and financially, buying a new carb made more sense. So an OKO Keihin PWK 28 carb was installed... And the bike ran better than ever before!
https://i.imgur.com/kJPx3sO.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/K9XPkv1.jpgBack to motard, once again...
https://i.imgur.com/9jCwfav.jpgAnd then the police finally got tired enough of seeing me with a hidden license plate and no lights/flashers, that I almost caught a 500 euro fine... It was time for everything to go back on...
https://i.imgur.com/QWjnY8D.jpgA month later the police caught me popping a wheelie, so a 705 euro fine and a month without a license was deemed proper. Bike was put to storage, to be awoken a month later. Rode it like that for a while, until my bottom piston ring decided to catch the inlet port and grenade my engine... A proper engine rebuild was in order!

https://i.imgur.com/RPGXFPO.jpgAnd we come to today, supermoto wheels back on, engine currently being broken in, and thanks to another friend, a stock Suzuki silencer taken from an RGV250 VJ22 was installed! Finally the bike wasn't making a ton of noise, and was 100% legal...
https://imgur.com/a/GnVgcO3During this time, many other things were done to the bike. Everything on it has been stripped off, cleaned, and everything that needed servicing was serviced. New braided brake lines, fork servicing, swing arm got sanded and then clear coated, fork gaiters got replaced with YZ125 plastics, the rear fender mounts were raised, as well as the front fender got a rise, custom stickers got installed, and many other small things I can't remember.
What's next for this bike? Once I find time, I will paint the plastics in the same colour as they are, because they have imperfections I don't like and can't fix otherwise. Everything I have replaced with aftermarket or removed from the bike, has been kept, and the bike can be restored 100% to stock factory look.
Other than that, I'm pretty satisfied with where it currently is. Performance wise, I don't wanna do anything to it. It's just not worth it tuning a 125 when you can just get a WR200, or even better, and XT600. I'm debating selling it in my head, in order to buy an XT600 and toy with that, but I can't decide... I've come to love this bike. When I bought it, I barely knew how to replace a spark plug... And through it I've learned how to do everything on it... No work on it was done by a shop. Everything done by me, in my spare time... If I end up keeping it and buying another bike alongside it, I will strip it down completely to paint the frame because it has some imperfections on it...
By the way, how popular is this colour scheme? I don't think many are left like this...

@calum Thanks mate! Lots of work and money has gone towards it! I've found one other purple dt in Greece only, rare indeed!
Also the forum never sent me the confirmation email? That's weird, it said unless I Confirmed that email I couldn't post, but it let me post. I think sometime in the past I had an account here, maybe thats the reason it didn't send me the email? Weird stuff.
If anyone has any questions regarding dt's, I'd be happy to answer, I've learned quite a bit about them fixing mine!

stunning bike mate, first time I’ve ever seen that colourway too. If you do keep i hope you decide to change it back to how it looked, it’s a really cool colourway.
I’ve heard loads of good things about the XT600 however I’ve heard more stories of people selling their DTR’s then hunting for them later. If you can afford to hold on to it.- it doesn’t matter how many CC’s you have or HP’s that little DT will always leave you with a big fat cheesy grin
