In search for a CDI
-
Hello everyone.
As you know if you read my Project topic,I have problem with my bike,it's almost certain that my CDI is failing probably due age.
I have 3 choices.
1.Buy a new original Yamaha,same unrestrictied,plug and play and that's it.
2.Buy a Zeeltronic,I have read every topic in here and it's a very good choice.
3.Buy an Ignitech, found some info that they say it's good, not as tunable as the Zeeltronic.A Zeeltronic what needs to be programmed by the owner,equipment/software?Comes with the CDI or not?
For the Ignitech has anyone in here used it?Is it possible with these CDI's to burn lower quality gas by modifying ignition timing. Why I ask that,I heed to modify the head chamber to burn 95 octane, now is tuned only for 100 octane and prices are above 2 euros/liter.

@theportingmaster Pretty sure recommends Ignitech. I exclusively run Zeeltronics on my bike and have had good success with those. The Borut normally supplies some base maps to use with the ignitions system so that's always a good starters for ten. I found it to be the single most beneficial improvement on the stock bike so it's my first point of call when looking to tune a 2 stroke.
Highly recommend a Zeeltronic.

This is an early bike with 3 coil stator. I thought that the aftermarket ignitions were only really affective on the later models with restricted CDI’s? Just from what I’ve read?…
Would it make sense if you’re not gonna port & tune?… -
@SpookDog The last DTRE/X CDIs are very simple to derestrict, earth green black wire.
When I originally did this, I couldn't tell you the difference. My Zeel then went faulty and I sent it back to Borut. I went back to stock CDI without the Green/Black wire earthed and the bike was gutless! I earthed the Green/Black wire and the bike came alive.
I fitted my new Zeel and it was like a completely new machine.
Sometimes, I find it hard to tell the difference. Going back to stock for some time then going on to a tuned system really highlighted the difference it maked to my bike.

Sorry, it’s been a while since I read your thread from the start. My bad memory is bought and paid for with decades of self abuse
Either way, make sure it’s the fault before splashing out!…I get that, it sometimes takes a change to realise what you’ve got. Or an improvement to realise how bad it was before! Well, it does with me I get this strange phenomenon where I get days where doing 50 mph feels like I’m doing a ton! Other days, not so much. Them’s the licks…

Mine has 10 wires actually coming out of the CDI unit. If you count the ends of the wires there’s 11 because the black one loops back and up for some reason…
I think someone told us recently that Tzr CDI’s have a different range or something, if you’re ported and tuned it would be ideal, no?..
PS the Tzr CDI might have an extra wire for the rev counter…

The 4DL cdi came, connected, resolved the neutral issue with the one less cable.
Fired up and.....be continued to the other topic
