      Prometheus Project

So not a DT but has been a nice little break from the DT. This is my first PC gaming rig. I know there are a few gamers out there. So I thought I'd share my little project.

So first things first: I bought Republic of Gaming Motherboard, 4th generation 4770k i7 Processor, 16GB Corsair Vengence RAM and a h110 280mm radiator water cooling system.

      The Specs

      • Republic of Gaming VI Maximus Z97 Motherboard
      • 4th generation i7 4770k Processor
      • 16Gb Corsair Vengence RAM
      • Corsair Vengence RAM Cooler
      • Corsair H110 280mm Water Cooling Radiator System
      • Asus Nvidia GTX 770
      • Asus Xonar DGX Sound Card
      • Pioneer Blu Ray Player
      • Republic of Gaming Double DIn Front Screen
      • Corsair 60Gb SSD
      • Seagate 2Tb Hybrid HSSD
      • Toshiba 500gb 7200 HDD
      • Corsair Vengence K70 Keyboard
      • Corsair Vengence K50 Mouse
      • Asus 27" 1080p Monitor

      That about does it.

      Superb Machine!

I don't play as many games as I thought I would on it. But it just eats up everything I give it which is amazing!

Games, Video editing, Coding, 3D animation, you name it it'll do it 😄

Love the mouse mat! Don't love the cable management, or rather lack of!

The cable management isn't too bad. I've seen a lot worse. Ultimately they aren't great photos of how it's routed. You have no choice but to see those cables since it's coming straght out of the PSU. Most can then be routed through the back.

It's a lot worse now because I've got a lot more going on. I got to a point where I just lost interest in spending hours routing cables for something I never look at. It's great enall but the case is closed 99% of the time.

That mousemat lmao. Think it was like £1.99. Bargain. Still looks fairly decent today.

@Dt-Danny Last I saw you were running the stock CPU cooler!

Hey it's funny you mention this as I have literally bought everything I need to do that. Computer is in bits as we speak whilst I sort it all out. Check this space for updates.

@Dt-Danny I got the CPU cooler and GPU cooler. It's gorgeous. Got a pump and reservoir and a new case but the case is damaged. So that needs to go back

Well the new case I bought got destroyed on delivery. So I had to send it back which has taken ages.

This new PC building I have gone all out on Liquid cooling, motherboard, CPU and GPU. I will make all the pipes myself. Should be interesting.

I haven't taken a photo of all the bits I have bought just yet but here is how it looks thus far.

Got myself a Corsair Griphite 760T case.
GTX 970 and an EK Water cooling block.
                    New CPU cooler
                    360Mm Radiator
                    Couple of radiators and pump

No I know it is not a 980. To be honest I don't really play games I just couldn't be bothered to find a decent liquid cooler for my 770.

The new case is nice. I am going to need to do some custom fabrication on this build.

                      hat other case was ruined.

I haven't got any fouling issues here. It even clears the radiator surprisingly

This is quality, I managed to fob off the second HDD rack, have a look why

It turns out you can mount 4 SSD's here so that means I can make more room for the reservoirs.

Hhmm, may have underestimated the difficulty of this part.

Don't mind the cable ties, they are simply there whilst I do the install. Once the final pieces are done I can remove them.

Some pieces in this shot are off. I will be redoing them. And some need trimming down a little bit.

But it's quite difficult actually. Getting it spot on is probably above my skill sets 😞

Getting there. This especially is not my forte. I have redone almost all the lines as I feel like I was getting the hang of it a little better. I would love to perfect it but I really want my PC back now it's been over a month!

My mandrel bender doesn't fit the bigger pipes, so had to do it by hand. I don't know if it's just me but swear I actually did a better job with just the corner of a table lmao. Ah well as said learning experience.

I am not 100% happy with it. I can't stress that enough, it's a lot harder to get it perfect than I thought. Maybe in the future I will do it again but for now here it is 75%complete.

The reservoir and pump are fixed in now too. All that's left is from the pump to the graphics card, motherboard and cpu. The lines from these components have been done.

Then the system needs filling up, checking for leaks. Then it should be good to go. Need to order a few more barbs and hard lines. But hopefully next week should see it back up and running.

Do both pal. To be fair, I enjoy building the computer more than I do using it. And that's the Gods honest truth lol. Once its built it'll be used for YouTube lmao.

It's just once you have had a custom PC, it's so hard to go to anythibg else. Just imagine no loading for anything. Everything is instantaneous on this machine.

It is lovely. But overkill. And you know me, I don't shy away from the tools.

But I am not very good at stuff like your man cave. One day I hope to be. But it's not a skill I posses right now. It takes all sorts of people in this world.

When I eventually upgrade my SSD I will probably be going with whatever the latest Samsung drive is. Just wondering, why did you choose a corsair drive and a Hyper x drive over other makes?

@MIGHTYMAN Samsung are absolutely gash lmao! Their SSD's are not compatible with Debian.

I bought the corsair one many moons ago.

I got the hyperx one free with the 970 graphics card. I would have not bought it out of choice.

The drive I would have got eould have been the San Disk Pro

Ah in that case, the overhead of running Windows outweighs the gains of running an SSD. I joke of course.

So on paper the Samsung Pro is better than the San Disk. But the random read speeds, which are more like real life performance, favoured better on the san disk.

Out of personal preference I don't like Samsung products. I have a few expensive Samsung items that are just naff.

But either way you won't tell the difference.
