Few problems with my dt125re

@bradt right so the gear shaft will need a new seal these are really easy to do take two mins, the pv is adjusted via the two cables on the left side of the head nothing should need replacing,the swing arm moving is most likely the rear shock bushings wearing out now I’ve had new bikes that still have a little play I believe my dt has a little play even through the bushings are good rattle the wheel up and down and if it clangs or sounds dodgy replace them

Cheers mate there is a little bit of clanging from swing arm so will get them replaced , haven’t a clue were to start with pv, and will get a new seals ordered for the shifter

@bradt you should visibly see the play in the bushes try locating where the play is first so I don’t lead you down the wrong direction

Checked the swing arm last night no clanging or bangs only slight movement I will leave the swing arm till last want the pv sorting first

Might aswell give the pv a clean while I adjust but how do I dismantle ?

@bradt If there is any play in the swingarm, and you ride it, you risk damaging it further, failure that, the shock.

It will also reek havoc on your wheel bearings as well.

Any suspension component will have consequence, big or small, on many other parts.

If this were me, I'd look to sort that out as a priority.

Bike not been rode at minute iv took it off road to get something things sorted and painted

Right so iv got round to ordering some new parts,
New battery
New starter relay
New gear shaft seal
And a few other bits

So iv got round to changing my battery and a new starter relay, turn ignition can hear pv doing its cycle all lights etc work fine, I go to press the starter button and believe it or not it clicks but it’s only a faint click not as loud as before I changed these things,

So where do I go know ? I haven’t got anything to read the volts with me and wanna get it sorted tonight for the weekend, has anyone got any info or anything else I can try as bumping starting it ever other day it’s killing me slowly ?

You need to have solid connections from the batter to the starter motor. That thing will zap loads of juice so the connections need to be fresh.

Tried connecting starter motor and nothing no sparks from battery or anything starting to get annoying.

Found a new starter on eBay
Seems really cheap from Yamaha prices anyone experienced this item ?

Also seen a kickstart conversion on eBay for £100 everything I need but a lever, do I risk the new starter motor or just go for the kickstart ? Opinions?

To be honest, not much technology in the starter motor, so wouldn't be surprised if they're cheap.

Aprilia ones cost about that too.

You can get them rebuilt. Probably cost more.

I'd do an impedence test first, see whether or not the motor has failed.

Put the kickstart conversion on the wish list, as it's definitely something worth having, but as a last resort. It's nice to have the leccy working as is first.

@bradt The system will incur a known internal resistence with itself, known as impedence. This can be measured. It should fall within a tolerable range, as described by the technical specification of the item. Compare your component against this documentation to ensure the item is within tolerance.

Chances are, if it is, then the item is not faulty.
