Oil Questions
-
I'm asking for oil quality only, which is the best.
-
@irongamer727 It's subjective I guess. Personally I run Silkolene oils for my four strokes. But currently running Castrol in my Starlet as a quick fix. It's leaking it all over the floor so need to sort that out.
-
@irongamer727 To each their preference. My mate works in the oil industry for motul, so when I need oil I just ask him and he'll bring the best stuff
-
It just feels so hard choosing. I want the best possible oil for my machines!
-
@irongamer727 As long as you stick with the bigger well-known brands you can't really mess it up. As for types of oil I use yamaha 10w-40 4t for my gearbox and motul 100% synthetic 2-stroke oil for the engine for all my 2 strokes. If I don't have motul, I just go with castrol.
-
@yamahaman5000 I always found that Silkolene products were very high quality and performed very well indeed.
-
My castrol oil cost roughly £10 for 1l. I found that silkolene for a whopping £22!!
You guys think there is a difference in quality between them?
-
@irongamer727 You can get Silkolene comp 2 for £15 a litre, which yes is more expensive, but as with everything in life - quality does not come cheap. Some people will say that oil is oil, but all the top race teams will most definitely not be using Castrol oil for-sure.
-
@ninja Alright thanks. Transmisson oil then?
What do you run? -
@irongamer727 Silkolene 75W-90, is what I have just put in my Starlet. Think it was around £75 for 4 litres.
-
@irongamer727 Castrol GTX Semi Synthetic lol.
I'll probably go with Silkolene for the RS, but the DT only ever got Castrol. I was on a budget at the time. And the DT doesn't make any power, plus engines were ten a penny.

@irongamer727 Yes, but I have had good oils mess with my clutch before. Castrol magnetec cause the clutch to slip uncontrollably
