DT125R NINJA Project
-
Man, that is such a good looking bike! Keep up the awesome work!
-
Thanks guys, so here's my current mod/wish list.
Upgraded brakes
Alloy rims & maybe new hubs too
Avon Trailrider tyres
OSD forks
New bars
New seat cover
Maybe new swingarm. [I really like Dartys YZ rear end build, but not sure if I will follow his work as yet].I may then set about tuning the engine, not sure if I'll just go mild with carbon reeds, air filter etc. Or go the whole hog with a 170cc kit? But that's a long way off if I choose to go down that road or not? As I'd really like to get my full licence and get rid of these butt-ugly L plates first!!!! LOL ;O)

@CYBER-NINJA Which wheel hubs are directly compatible with the DT? I'm guessing a lot are, so long as the spindle is the right thickness and you just use the right size spacers to centralize the wheel? Or am I totally wrong and they all different for each manufacturer? I'm guessing that the WR and YZ hubs are a direct fit, but what else is too please???
Thanks
-
@CYBER-NINJA Wrong on that one pal.
You can't just go willy nilly changing wheels. Centralising the wheel to the swingarm doesn't achieve much. You must have the front and rear wheels inline. Then you must get the front and rear sprocket in line. Failure to do so will not end well.
Eventually I had to machine down the rear brake carrier to get everything centralised my end. Was a right faff!
-
@Calum OK so the simplest solution is to use the existing hubs and just get the wheels rebuilt with alloy rims. As that way there will be less faffing around with lining everything up, but the issue would then be getting a larger front brake disc to fit the DT's 3x2 bolt pattern. However what if I used the stock rear hub and a WR or YZ front hub? Would that all line up if I used the correct spacers? As that would give me a better bolt pattern for a larger front disc too???

Well sadly the bike was sold today. She was a damn fine lady and a pleasure to own. Hopefully the new owner will keep her looking and running sweet? After being out of the saddle for 30 years I've really enjoyed riding her immensely! I'll miss the ole girl for-sure, but hey ho onto new adventures we go..............
