Yes, although sounds like a powervalve issue to me.

Or rather, I'd start by looking at the powervalve as the easiest place to start.

@Calum checked power valve and it is ok. when ignition on it is flush open then when engine start it closes. if i lock the pv open the bike has more pover in high revs but cant get more than maybe 9-10k

@dtr-mkd If you want a fully derestristed CDi, then the best option is a Zeeltech, as there fully programmable and you can then run custom maps on your bike. 😉

@dtr-mkd Nice, well you've checked that it's not the valve so depending on what year your bike is will determine how you derestrict it.

There is a guide on here I'm sure you can find it if you search for it.

Being a 88 model I'm guessing the power valve isn't on cables the best thing you can do if not is take the cover off the powervalve on the left side of the cylinder head and rotate it 180 degrees and then refit the cover

@andrewj1680 On the later DTR's powervalves were fitted as standard, on the earlier ones it was my impression that powervalves were ONLY fitted to those that provided a the dealer with a bike license.

I was also under the impression that Joe Bloggs could go to Yamaha and buy the Powervalve to retrofit to their machines. But they just couldn't buy the bike with it fitted.

So it's possible that a factory fresh 88 could have YPVS.

I was also under the impression 88's were Mk3 DT LC's not R's.

I don't know anything about the LC's, except the Mk3's wer every similar to the R's but ran a different engine

                alt text

Previous generations of the LC ran front and rear drums with a completely different swingarm

@dtr-mkd I'd take the cover off and check it's all moving as it should if so pin it in the open position and unplug the servo then try it again
