Repro cable arrived, see photo, with O ring perfect fit, I know it's not much, do you think original cable is designed for a bit of play in it?
If I put a cable adjuster to correct to correct(?) fit would also pull on oil pump pulley opening oil pump prematurely, as fitted inner cable perfect length and opens oil pump in sync with throttle.

Don't forget, there were two types of oil pumps that came on these engines. Therefore I'd expect to see two different types of cables.
That bottom silver one looks more familiar to me, but I have the later engine. Earlier engines use different pumps.

Both the Yamaha cable and Yambits (unuseable) cable same length spigot, oil pump came with bike and same as my 88 so no reason to suspect change there. Perhaps I am looking for a problem that does not exist. Repro received today fits perfect though, Yamaha cable operates throttle and pump in unison so no issues with suitability, only that the circlip indent doesn't locate near to cable entry near oil pump housing as per the repro used previously. Will give it some thought and probably leave original in place, maybe make spacer that fits inside oil pump housing.

Stripped the front brake caliper, in poor condition, dust seal filled with brake fluid and piston fitted back to front, you can see a bit of the piston seal in the dust seal groove. Sure the damage was done when the piston was fitted by whoever. Chucked the lot in the ultrasonic cleaner before I touch it, cleaner need fresh fluid anyway.

Calipers painted and rebuilt, fitted loose to bike, waiting for rear master cylinder hose to and front cable clip to arrive. Refitted carb with 240 main jet, again waiting for engine water hoses to arrive so I can fill and try starting engine (
), speedo cable fitted and swingarm chain protector/upper roller fitted. Not too much to do now, wheels not back from Central yet and Galfer disc unlikely to arrive until new year.

Have had to endure Christmas crap all week, but SANTA did deliver the Galfer brake disc, and as I am on the nice list allowed time to secluded myself in the garage today with bikes and music. Downside is new hoses for RAD never arrived so had to reorder, sticking the old ones back on for now.

Looks good quality, not much more than standard replacement, mates choice (a good one) filled with oil and water after fitting hoses, all bled and started 3rd kick, sounds good. Exhaust can really tight fit onto expansion chamber so mounting holes not lining up,will get mini grinder out after Christmas. Spare wheels while waiting for rebuilt ones from Central Wheels, seems they are not quick either!

I won't know until I do it, will have to get pin out of cover plate that fits in to frame and then drill lock out, should not be too bad (famous last words!)
On the bike front waiting for wheels to come back, list of things to do very short now, have run engine right up to temp and sorted exhaust, fitted panels and tank to make sure all ok, need a better seat though, on my to do list. -

It's getting there Calum, waiting for wheels seems to be the norm, thought Central would have a quicker turnover, happy new year BTW!

Wheels back from Central with stainless spokes (0.5mm thicker) and black satin hubs, look fantastic. My pals putting the tyres on etc, chainset arrived as well so nearly there, will post pics of wheels later this week hopefully, just as well as the spare rear wheel I have on at the moment stinking my garage out. Don't know what it is but wheels sprayed with something smelly! Imageworks sorting decals , new owner picked 1990 model year.
Ended up stripping fuel tap as leaking when I put fuel in, ultrasonic clean, new o ring and all done.
Also fitted new radiator hoses that arrived saturday.
Replacement front brake hose also arrived, HEL kit line was too short when fitted so ordered another 100mm longer and that's fine, anyone else had that problem? -

The R&G ones on the 88 were fine, just the front out of the HEL kit. Thought it might be the Renthals but not that much different, will know for next time though, 1.4m perfect fit, kit one 1.3m. Sure I will find a use for it somewhere.
