Evening chaps. Just bought myself a project. 2004 dt125re. Been in a hedge for 6 years but in surprisingly good condition. Started to strip it for a full rebuild. Powder coated frame etc. It's not seized, starter works, battery is ok so looking good so far. Exhaust is in pieces though

Cool man.
Word of advice, plastics for these bikes are on the up, if you intend on restoring it, plastics would be the first thing I'd source, before they're discontinued.
It's a good base though.
What are the plans.

Try reading that.

@calum the plastics are super rare I’ve never seen any at all
-
@declan What? They can still be bought new from Yamaha.
-
@calum I can honestly say I’ve never saw any apart from two rear quarter panels also why do they fade so easy are they cheaply made or something
-
I ordered some from fowler's a few months back, on back-order but they arrived in just over a week
-
@declan Fade, mine never faded. Used daily. As said his has been in a hedge.
-
@calum the most I’ve seem are badly faded usually the blue ones
-
@declan Yeah, probably just because they never really get looked after to be fair. I replaced mine because the previous owner wrote the bike off down the road and they were road rashed. And then it got nicked which further road rashed them. No fade though.

One of my originals was faded, I put it down to that side being parked facing a window or something.

@carl6897 7Welcome aboard bro, looks like you have the basics just a touch of polish and she'll be all shiny and new in no time !!!
-
Any body know how the speedo cable comes out of the wheel end? Didn't want to pull too hard but it's stuck
Thanks -
It's only a push fit, maybe it's rusted in? Try soaking some WD40 into it
-
@finnerz89 Pretty sure it's a screw thread is it not?
-
@calum mines currently off the cable housing screws to the speedo housing just unscrew the cable from off the speedo housing and pull
-
@calum I was assuming he'd figured out the screw thread part already lol
-
@finnerz89 And what do they say about assumptions. It's the brother of all fuck ups.
