Hi guys, I have a 2006 dt re and I always had the dream to convert it in something like a rally bike (i’m planning in the next years a long distance trip with my father, probably in Morocco, he has a r80 g/s 1985), for the moment I just like the idea to have a big tank that could last a lot of Kilometers. I found this ad here in Italy ( https://www.kijiji.it/annunci/ricambi-moto/cuneo-annunci-cuneo/yamaha-dt-125-tenere-chesterfield-scout/127172751 ) where it says the tank costs 100 € and it is a bit rusty on the outside, this doesn’t matter to me cause i would repaint it. Does anyone knows if the attachments On the frame are the same of my dt re, if yes I probably have to change also the seat ( the seat’s frame it’s on sale for 15 €) and to cover it with also new foam? If the attachments are the same I also have to consider that the expansion chamber goes on the opposite side of mine and I think also the radiator’s position is different. Thank you if someone knows something about the dt tenere and its frame

        Not seen this before.

Any thing is possible I guess. Just depends on how far you want to go with it.

You are looking at a DT125LC,

I'd say it's doable... but looks like a mess to mount that tank and fairing to a DTR. The frame design is quite different from a LC to an R.

          Keep it real

@autovictor I'd say its do-able if you have some fabrication skills. Bear in mind that you'll need the fairing and seat all to match

thanks for everybody's replies! comparing the two frames (dtre: https://www.bike-parts-yam.it/yamaha-motocicli/125-MOTO/2005/DTRE/DT125RE/TELAIO/8_825-825/B16/0/1890 ,dt lc (and also tenere): https://www.bike-parts-yam.de/yamaha-motorrad/125-MOTO/1987/DTLC/DT125LC/RAHMEN/7_687-687/B17/0/21841 ) i think the rear attachment of the tank is the same or can be easily modified by a bracket, but on the front i can't understand how the lc's tank attaches the frame, on my bike there also is the electronic control unit under the tank and it takes quite a lot of space.

For the moment i think i'll ask to the ad's owner if he can take a few photos under the tank so i can see better how it's made

@autovictor have you checked to see if the 230 Lanza tank is the same size as the 125? If not could be an easy upgrade in size.

if you mean this one unfortunately it's exactly the same tank https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yamaha_dt230 97.htm

@autovictor sorry mate was just thinking it might be bigger. Loving the idea of the new version Tenere you're thinking of though.

Have you considered checking with Acerbis to see if they make a DT tank?

@Nottsbiker i have just checked out on the acerbis site and seems like the only yamaha tank with a real improvement from mine is a 25 liters for wrf 250/450: http://www.acerbis.it/motorsport/en/product/plastics/fuel-tanks/oversized-fuel-tanks-/yamaha/0008595#a_page
but looking on the net i thing the rubber attachment is different (there is only one longitudinally to the bike instead of two perpendicularly), but i'm not really sure. for the moment i'm waiting for an answer of particular photos of the tank from the ad's owner of the tenere.
