Newbie, Soon To Purchase '99 DT125R
-
Hello there,
So as I was taking my YBR125 for its last MOT the other week to then sell it and put the money into savings, I saw a black DT125R at the place I've always had my bikes MOT'd, had a sit on it and knew I needed it. So much for "savings".
Got the YBR sold within a few days and went back just the other day to have a closer look at it, it's a V-reg, so '99? and having done research a late 1999 as it doesn't have the steering lock on the ignition barrel?
Anyway, it's done 2500 miles, and from the condition of the bike and the keys it's genuine. Started 3rd kick after not being ran for a good while and I had a pootle on it round the car park.I get paid in a few days and plan on going back down and buying it.
Since seeing it I've been researching DT's as I previously knew zilch about them.
At the moment I'm trying to determine what exact model it is if it's a late '99, and what that translates to in terms of restrictions etc, and more information about this Zeeltronic ignition system, how I'd go about setting it up and most importantly if it's compatible with the bike. (fitting it shouldn't be a problem, especially not after doing a full 12v ignition system conversion on an old MZ)That's all for now, any info greatly appreciated and I hope to be back here soon as the owner of said DT

Sounds like a nice bike. The steering locks usually all get broken, but if the bike has done that little.mileage then yoy might be in luck. I believe tbe zeeltronic is only for the later re models. You may have to look into another system. I run a zeeltronic and they are wonderful. Coming from a YBR you probably won't need a zeel to begin with. It will br a good jump up in power.
The dt is worth buying. They sre omly going up in value so consider it an investment

Cheers Callum, yeah I'm not too fussed about a steering lock, anyone wanting to nick it would just sit on it and kick the bars until it breaks free anyway paha.
And aah right, I wasn't sure, do you know any other systems that would work with a 99?
And I'm getting my pennies together as we speak, that's exactly how I'm seeing it, can't see it losing money like a lot of bikes.
First mods will hopefully be the usual full deristriction and a pipe from Romeu, unsure of what can though as I'd like a Kevlar arrow can but would need the centre pipe piece which I wouldn't have if I got one -

@Burridge Sounds mint,
Zeeltronic will fit your bike, Ignitech' will also make you a programmable Ignition based on the type of loom you have, check what's on the front of the standard CDI when you get her, Think all 1997' onwards models went to frame steering lock,
Worth some pennies for sure, have a look at 'Ignitech DCCPID2' units,

Thanks for the info matey, just come back from having another look at it, had another go round the car park on it, fully pooed myself when it hit the power band and put a deposit on it straight away. Should get it Friday.

@MIGHTYMAN it is mate, not a single thing changed!
I'm gonna feel guilty doing anything to it!
Can't find a patch of rust on it really, apart from abit of surface in the bars but I want some pro tapers anyway.
Mileage:

Passed my CBT again today, buzzing to get out on the DT I got home and got it insured, went to tax it and "the reference number you entered is invalid"
Thank you government!!
I apparently can't use the ref number on my new keepers section of the logbook as I'm "supposed" to have my v5 by now... But I don't, and I don't mind waiting so what's the fucking point in not letting me tax it with the new keepers slip exactly??So yeah, all my hopes dashed and a whole week or 2 of build up to be stopped in my tracks by £15 worth of tax. Balls.

@Burridge That's crazy maybe they've added a few extra things in from when I done it back in the day but I think it lasted longer the first time I ever done the CBT training as a guy in the group couldnt get to grips with the gears on the bike and kept stalling and it held us all back for a good hour then he got told to go home and come back the next day! I don't know but 7 years ago one of the places round here more or less let just let my brother drive round the block a few times and followed him and gave him the CBT certificate and that was it guess it depends on the place you go to.
